I'm definitely new here and have never paper pieced before, but, I'd like to do this. I do have a question though. When I printed out the pattern, it was 1/16" more in the 1 inch square test. Also, the pattern says this will produce a 12" block. The general BOM instructions said we are aiming for a 12 1/2" block. Can anyone suggestion the best way to correct this discrepancy? Thanks.

Nicky: What a great idea using those snowmen. You did a great job fussy cutting.

Rural01, The finished block size(in the quilt)will be 12" but when you make it it is 121/2" so you'll have a 1/4" seam allowance on each side to attach it to the next block. So while you're making the block it should end up at 12 1/2".

I print the patterns but don't really pay attention to the exact measurement of the 1" test block. I would think it will be ok being 1/16 off. I'm new too so I'm by no means an expert. Good luck.

If each piece is 1/16" off, which they will be if the test block is not exactlly 1", it will make a huge difference by the time all the pieces are assembled. Experiment with the scaling on your printer or photocopier until it prints correctly. For example, if it is 1/16" too large, then try printing at 98% for example, until you find the magic number. I hope this helps!

When you print ck your measurement andmake sure it's on 100% for full size...your block should measure 1 inch

HobbyKat, they say that great minds think alike! Your snowmen are adorable. We too are waiting for snow.

Thanks, I didn't realize the extra 1/2" was for seam allowance. Oops!
