Back into the sewing room after a month away on vacation..... I decided to make place mats from my squares so I can donate them to our bowling Children's Variety fundraiser. The first is completed..... I can't remember where I recently saw a hint to fold up your binding like a fireman.... but found a letter holder in my front hallway that worked just great for me..... I replaced it with my crystal napkin holder on the front desk.... I would have loved to use it for the binding but it just wasn't wide enough.

ThimbleBug...Great place mat and I love your tip for folding binding. Great idea and I'll sure use it for my next one! Would you please post the size of the placemat? Love how you made it. I'm guessing the green strips were cut about one inch? ...and the tan cut maybe 2 1/2 inches? Jan

Beautiful placemat! that will make an awesome set for sure. What a great idea for the binding, going to the recycle store tomorrow and see if they have something. Would be nice to keep off the floor and not all tangled up Thanks for that little tip

Thimblebug6000: I sure could have used that idea when I bound my queen sized quilt yesterday.

    Thanks for sharing.

I cut the green at 1 ½ " and the beige at 3 "... They are a little larger than my other place mats, they finished at 18 ½ " by 13 ¾ "
