While I am not proficient at paper piecing, I wouldn't try this block any other way. The skinny points would be terribly difficult to do by the regular piecing method.

Thanks for this aberi, it's going to challenge me and I need that right now. I am going to go pull the fabrics this afternoon.

My quilt is going to be eclectic as I vowed to use scraps and stash so that is going to make for some interesting combinations once the blocks are put together.

Hopefully I'll have a picture of "Cross my Heart" to post in the next few days.

Its a truly pretty block but with that tiny one and all those points that go right to the edge of the block... don't know. I will attempt it, post it and then everyone can see why I get anxious about this. I did a bunch of paper pieced attempts at the end of the year. I am moving to an area with lots of quilters maybe someone will be kind enough to sit down with me and do the keep it simple method so I can truly get it. I am a visual learner I think. Thanks for the support everyone. You have pushed me to at least attempt this one.
Have you looked at the excellent tutorial at this site?

I am not great at paper piecing, but this tute really is good for taking you through step by step. Just take your time and keep holding your work up to the light to make sure your fabric will cover the area you need it to, and you will be fine. If I can do it, you can do it. You sew girl! :)

OK Suzie Go back to thewebsite and "print" it. Where it says "stretch to fit" (I think) there should be a drop down that says "none". Make sure you have "none" selected and you will get your 100% size. I know, I did it the other way first, too. Good luck. Gladie

now before I start..is there anything a newbie to paperpiecing should know before I go ahead and make ALL the mistakes??  I better go and measure my pattern to make sure it is 6 inches..whew it is! Lucky for me as I have traced out 4 copies of the pattern! I dont know how my paper will work as have seen numerous discussions on this board about what paper to use. i am using an exercise book (for australian users as they might be able to get this themselves if it works well..) It is called a Spicers Olympic stripe brand - A4 64 Page Mapping Tracing Book. On the outside it has black and yellow stripes and I think i got it from a school supplies store. it is good to use as it is a book and the original pattern fits in and doesnt move around. The paper seems a bit thinner than copying paper that you would use in your home printer. will let you know how it goes..

If you have not done paperpiecing please be sure to review the tutorial on the quilting board under tutorials.
Remember that you paper is the top layer when you sew, underneath will be your material and it will be wrong side placed against the back of the paperpiecing. It took me a couple tries when I first started. About 1-1/2 hours to get it right, the first three pieces are the most difficult in terms of understanding the concept. but once you have it....bam... it just goes smoothly... be paitient, you can do this.... I had to review the tutorial a couple of times and then it all just fell into place! Good luck!

Thanks it's ok now. But I am new to this, so it may take me awhile.

Well, it looks like we all are in doubt on this technique. I'm so new I still have 40 shades of green to shed. So, this is really a foreign approach. I bought the freezer paper. Now I have to wait until the first of the month to get more ink. ~I'M OUT OF INK~ I didn't see that coming. Good luck everyone. I love reading all your comments and thank you all for sharing and whomever created this site, may golden threads stitch your path upwards!

I was afraid of this. I have never paper pieced! Any words of advice for a "newbie piecer" would be greatly appreciated. I already searched for Paper Piecing for Idiots, but I guess there aren't any out there, so I'm on my own. :) I do like a challenge, though, so this block will be right up my alley.

If you go down the page about 3/4 of the way you will see it. Her block is done in Blue and Reds and I felt that if you changed the blues to green it would look like tulips instead and they would be heart shaped.. There is an excellant tutorial in our quilting board explaining paper piecing!!! I look so forward to seeing all your blocks for February!! By the way.. Happy Early Valentines Day!
