What a wonderful idea. Will each month's block patterns be posted monthly on this message board? I am new to this so any tips and help would be greatly appreciated. I'm working picking up all the abbreviations on here.

I think I had better get my craft room cleaned up so I will be ready to start the star and house BOMs. Plus I have a GS graduating this year. Oh my. Since I have a month for star and house BOM I shouldn't have too much trouble. Right? LOL

Yes, each month's pattern for the stars will be posted on the 15th of each month. There will also be a thread for posting pictures each month and we'll all give hints and tips for things we've found that make working on that particular design easier. Will be a lot of fun and hopefully we'll all learn a lot.

What the heck, I'll build a house on the first and create a star on the fifteenth.

Count me in for both.

I haven't joined one of these before, but am considering it this year!

I have a question.... will we know in advance how much fabric to purchase (and how many different patterns/colors)? I am new to quilting, so I do not have a stash to work from. I'm just trying to understand how to help ensure all the blocks work together at the end of the year.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi Cheryl, hope you do join us. It's really hard to predict how much fabric would be needed. It all depends on what you want to do. Do you want a really scrappy quilt? Do you want the background the same on all the blocks. Each particular block will not take much fabric, but if you want the background of all 12 blocks to be the same, of course, you would more of that one fabric. Some blocks may only need 2 colors, other blocks may take 3 or 4. So, if you have made any quilts at all in the past, you may have some pieces that may be suitable for some of the blocks. See why it's so hard to tell what you may need overall?

If nothing else, pick up a few fat quarts that you like and give it a try.

I think I may do this one! It would be my first BOM...

I don't have a stash, so what do you recommend I start with? Fat quarters? What would be a good size to have on hand?
