Emma and Pam I love both of your alternate layouts!!!!

I have been participating but silently I have 12 blocks made going to make an additional 12 but there was a family emergency that required I trip out of state so as soon as things calm down will get back to it. My goal is to get the entire top pieced together before the next train leaves the station.

I love the layouts I've seen so far. But I think the one with constant sashing is my favourite. Here's my progress so far. I tried for a sort of controlled scrappy on the block borders of green and brown. I'm not sure that was a good idea. So I think I might use the neutral in the 4 squares to sash between with black cornerstones to continue the stairstep pattern. I'm quitting for the evening and will make a firm decision tomorrow morning on how to finish it. But I do like this design very much -- just not my colour choice for the block borders.

Oops! I see a mistake that needs correcting in the second row. Will do that then quit for the evening.

Thanks Judy for all your time, making this a great train ride. My second.
I seen where you are thinking of a boy quilt next, Just what I need.
Got new Great Grandbaby coming this fall.
[now if my picture comes through]
What I meant was that I made this pattern using plaids, strips, solids and some novelty stuff - a tripical fish print I had, some fabric that looked like stone, stuff that would be boyish as opposed to girly flowers.

Donna: Love how your quilt turned out. Red and white quilts are one of my favorites and your placement of the black squares added that little extra. Perfect!

lv2sew = loving the red/white quilt. I agree with Emma, the black squares really enhance it. Is that a queen?

yesterday DH calls to tell me we are going to become great-grandparents, as in unmarried 17 year old only granddaughter, who decided to move in with her boyfriend and drop out of school, is pregnant. She is working on her GED and has a full-time job at McD's but no car or license. Boyfriend is unemployed, almost 21, and no license or car. Now I'm beginning to feel my age.
Keep my family in your prayers., this is daughter whose son had lung surgery last month.

I'm not old enough for Social Security yet (well, will be in 7 weeks), definitely not old enough to be a great-grandparent!
