I was wondering if anyone is thinking about a different background beside black. Just found this post and too many to read. I have never worked on black, so not sure I would like it.
    Thanks for your reply

That sounds nice, will you follow the colors in the book, or change to fit your colors?

No, not everyone is using black as the background. I am doing mine on a denim-lookin Shadowplay. Another person is doing a blue, someone else is doing an olive color, and there's turquoise, and possibly a yellow. There's probably more than that, I just don't remember.

I think I have found what I want to use for my hand embroidery on these blocks. I have tried embroidery floss and wasn't really crazy about it. I tried variegated and solids and still didn't like it. Today I got to the city to do some shopping and found some YLI Pearl Crown Rayon. It is beautiful. I bought some variegated which is really pretty, but don't think I will go that route - think I will go back and find a solid, either pale yellow or better yet a gold color. I do like the thread. It does say on the back "Not a needle thread", but I am assuming that means in the sewing machine because I had no problem doing hand embroidery with it. It's nice and shiny. Unless I change my mind again, I think this is it.

I'm thinking you can't use it in the sewing machine needle. I think it would shred. Maybe it's designed for bobbinwork, but I've never done any of that, so I'm going do handwork with it. It's a pretty thick thread. I did a couple of hearts on one of my practice blocks with it and it looks nice on the block.

    Found this info.

"YLI Pearl Crown Rayon is a highly twisted thread-like cord. This decorative thread is designed for serger loopers, bobbinwork, hand application or couching."

    It looks lovely.

Oh...another thread to check out! I just love pretty threads for embellishing! Can you show us a pic of the heart you did???

Hope you join us djbs! Some will follow the book as closely as possible, then there are others whose quilt is look really different. I'm using dark olive green as my background and turning the blocks on point...so, you can do whatever trips your trigger!
