The withering is just the knowledge of how far I've yet to go. I have a feeling mine will be very pretty, though.

LaceLady, I just found "Affairs of the Heart" applique` photos & have had a blast looking at them. Would like to say thank you for sharing, & now I would like to try it. It will be added to the bucket list.

Ducks, please be careful! withering inside isn't good for duckies, except maybe rubber ones!!!

How kind - keep popping in, the main group officially started on 5th June (I think it was the 5th), so you wouldn't be so very far adrift if you were to start soon, and the schedule is only one block per week.

You can see all the threads if you scroll down to the bottom of any page, click on Topic Lists, and then on the AOTH section (second down).

Lacelady..your quilt is beyond gorgeous! What an inspiration! I just got my book today in the mail and I amj so ready to do block 1...but I have a problem...how do I do 10 inch blocks instead of 7? Do I just cut the blocks bigger or enlarge the applique patterns too? Can you help..thanks!

You will need to enlarge your patterns with a setting of 142% at the copier. I did mine on my all-in-one printer. You don't get the whole image on an 8 1"/2" x 11" sheet of printer paper, but more than half of it, so you just need to turn the copy 180º to trace off the other half when you are marking your background fabric.

Enlarge a design by 142% on a photocopier/printer and it will sit nicely on a 10.5in block (I cut mine 11in and trimmed down a bit once I had done the applique). You won't be able to get the whole design on a sheet of A4, but if you get more than half of it, then you will still be able to copy it onto your background fabric square by doing it half at a time.

If you used the design straight from the book and put it on a larger background square, you would have a lot of fabric around each design, as the ones in the book are meant for 7in squares.

Making bigger squares, and therefor a bigger quilt (mine measures 92in square now) means you will need more background fabric. I bought 15 yards, and by the time I have done the binding, I estimate I will have between half to one yard left over.

Thank you so much...I am inclined to do the 7" blocks now. I have no need for a 92" quilt! I am sleeping single in a double bed!

I am going to think about it for awhile anyway! Thanks again for your help. :D

    ohhh, Lace...yummmmy!!!!
I only bought 11 yards...do I need to get more?
my quilt is going to be the same size as yours.
I might need 3 more yards, but I need to know.
It's going to make a nice quilt, but I don't need a lot of this left over.
    It's not the blue ;-)

If you are in any doubt Mousie, why not draw out a diagram on paper of your yardage. Check out pages 10 and 11 in the book to get an idea how to do that. Don't forget that I used more black in that my narrow borders have a black background that isn't allowed for in those diagrams. First thing is to measure the width of your fabric, and what size you are cutting your block backgrounds.
