I decided to go back and try to do the other blocks, so this is the frolic one. I think I did something wrong, but I dont know what. I have a hard time with templates, they never match up correctly.
I am going to try the other one too because I am learning a lot doing them. Maybe someone can tell me what I did wrong. One of my pieces is not like everyone elses. Mary

i can't see anything wrong. i'll keep looking and let you know by PM if i finally find anything but i think it's fabulous!

never think your result with a block is wrong just because it looks different. (your is different from mine because yours is BETTER. LOL)

the trick to templates is cutting them exactly along the lines. some people use freezer paper. i printed mine on sticker project paper. no particular reason.

i also discovered something else. it pays to make sure all your fabric is facing in the same direction (all face up, or all face down).

it helped, too, to starch the fabric before putting down the templates and cutting. the fabric cuts more precisely and the pieces hold their shape better. when they're cut just right, they fit together like puzzle pieces. if they're a little off ... not so easy.

i had never used templates before, either. so much fussy cutting seemed too much like work. but they make more sense (to me) when making only one copy of a block. then it's less work because there's no math for rotary cutting.

some methods work better than others for different kinds of blocks. i just started a new quilt. i've used templates for some of the pieces; paper pieced in other places; and rotary cut/strip pieced for others. so far (knock on wood) it's going together better than almost anything i've done before.

honestly, Mary, i can't see any mistakes in your block. all i see is pretty.

Thanks Patrice, and thanks for the tips. Its not like I have never heard to do all those things before, but I am just lazy and want to get it done. But all those things makes sense.
I did do them for the quilt I am doing, but I never cut just one. That is where I make a mistake too, I try to cut too many at once, and that is a mistake. I think I am going to try making templates out of something other than paper.
I am so glad I found this blog, you all motivate me and encourage me at the same time. Just like having your own personal trainer.
Now do you think you could come to my house and motivate me into exercising. lol

nope. that's the way they're "supposed to be", if you interpret the block as presented in the instructions.

While I am one dimensionally challanged (I can never get to the point), I am fairly capable of two and three dimensional anaysis (robotics engineer, eh?).

Nothing wrong with that block. Good job.
