    Default On with Jane

I'm almost done (?) with the Orca Bay quilt - well, I'll be doing borders tomorrow..... So I had to get my mind into my next project - I was considering joining up with the UFO group, to complete some of my UFO's (1 a month) but decided to go with the Jane, since it is one that was started long ago, and getting this done will be an accomplishment too. I made 4 blocks years ago, and finally dug them out - here are my 2 favs so far

My husband flew up to Maplewood this afternoon...St. Paul side. He said it was cold! Our daughter lives there.

I am anxious to get back to my Dear Jane. When I started I thought I would use ....now, no wise cracks... Use a wonderful line of watermelon fabrics. Didn't really like how it was going to turn out...then decided to make a vest with the blocks and having a hard time visualizing it. But, I also decided I wanted to do repros as well and have some made and am very happy with these fabrics for the quilt.

Just got the disc/cd and rulers...am trying to learn the program...not happy so far...guess I am no techie!

Looking forward to working with you all.

My software finally came and I was so excited to get started, I made my first 9 blocks yesterday. Still struggling a bit with the software, I cant get it to save, but I color coded my calendar, so I am ok with not saving.Someone ask how long it takes to make these. I spent 2 hours making the first three blocks. Of the first 9, each block has taken from 20 minutes for simple ones, to 90 minutes for the more complicated ones. I think I am probably just a little slower than average at piecing.

Feathers, your blocks are great! 90 minutes on more complicated ones isn't much. I know there are blocks I spent way more time on. Besides it doesn't matter how much time you spend on a block as long as the result makes you happy. And if it doesn't make you happy, wait till the whole quilt is done and decide if you want to do it over again. A few not so perfect blocks won't show in a quilt this big

No, you don't add a border. The TR1's top little tri will be smaller, but not lost and TR2 already has a small border on each side. I pp'd ALL the tris then used the tri ruler to cut them. They went together perfectly and when sewn into the long border rows, they fit the quilt perfectly too.

Your blocks are great. I love seeing all the pics. The blogspot does help alot. The software is also good since you can print out the patterns and so far they are accurate for piecing. They save alot of work trying to make them yourself. You can print both piecework patterns and paper piece patterns. It is hard to figure out the software but once your quilt is setup it is simple to just pick a block for the pattern. I would not even attempt it without the software.

Seeing all of these blocks posted makes me eager to start. The software is on back order but looking at the book, I'm not sure I even need the software. My fabric hasn't even arrived yet, so I'll just dream and enjoy all of your blocks. They are just wonderful to look at.

Feathers - I am going to ask you to post those again this weekend when the new thread is started - you are an inspiration for those afraid that 3 a week is too much

I have a [hopefully quick] question for those familiar with the software print - someone had said you can 'move' pieces around before printing. That I could do - but how do you add another block's pieces to the first one to actually use more of the paper? Do you have to make it all go to one side and then run through the printer again to get the next pattern on the other end hoping there's no overlap?
