Of course they are rotary cut. I'll give you a hint on the cutting. In a seam there are 2 threads + the fold. That takes up space from the 1/4 inch seam, so I ALWAYS cut my pieces a few threads larger and sew a scant 1/4 inch seam. Very rarely do I have a problem. I also measure often and use a slotted 1/4 " foot with a guide so I can make needle adjustments.
Ah ha! As i was hand piecing the first two blocks I thought I should be making the pieces just a smidge bigger and sewing to the outside of the line when I hand stitch.

I think that's kind of what you are saying. Thank you so much Honchey for posting the rotary cutting directions.

I just love being able to see everyone's blocks! Its even better than being in a class together face/face. I can take my time and look and see everyone's wonderful colors and color combinations. This is the BEST.

Here's my first two blocks. After the long wait, it was sooooo much fun. I'm paper piecing anything that is beyond squares and triangles! I love the look.

For those who came in later, I learned something from someone's earlier comment. You can buy a program called BlockBase from Electric Quilt. It has all the blocks from Barbara Brackman's Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns. You can look up thousands of blocks.

The reason I got it is: 1) I don't have the money to buy EQ yet (maybe Christmas ;) ) It will interface with EQ if (and when) you buy it. Reason 2), when you find a block, you can have it print out a foundation for paper piecing, or have it print out rotary cutting instructions. It also does templates, which you don't need with FW because we have them, but later on might come in handy.

I got it mainly for the paper piecing instructions. Not all blocks have it, but it will certainly help! I got the paper piecing for the first block, Attic Windows.

    Kookla,
Your blocks are looking good, yes I see the improvement even from #1 to #2 and it will get better with experience. I am so proud of you who are brand new quilters doing this I don't think I would have had the confidence to do it this way.
It is great to be able to look at all the blocks isn't it.
    Quilting Nonnie,
I love your blocks especially the 1st one are those K.T.'s or Thimbleberries per chance?

The tan with brown and red flowers is a Red Rooster fabric, the turkey red is a very old fabric from my aunt's fabric, the green is from Joann's.

I love the colors of KT, and I had 2 charm packs of Oak Leaves and Reel by Moda. Those are the fabrics used in the first block. I just pulled from my stash to coordinate with the charm packs.

Kookla ,Check the measurement of the joined pieces after you finger press them. now is the time to make any corrections or adjustments then you press each one(normal pressing.) every step, everytime . Pressing is part of the process. sometimes it seems tedious but necessary.
