Thanks, girls. It's fun to share what we are doing. :-) I think Mary Gray from this week's two blocks is one of my favorites so far. I was happy to come across this pattern and probably will use it again in the future in one way or another.

Katybob, Ordinarily I don't have a problem visualizing how something goes together in my head-- but the upside-down, backwards, inside-out method of paper piecing sometimes frustrates me. Even using people's wonderful tips doesn't seem to stop me from sewing on pieces that are too small or cock-eyed so that I'm losing a seam allowance. I generally have to waste large pieces of fabric to get the job done. I applaud you girls that paper piece! :-)

I finished also my Mary Gray, but will post both here now. Two very different color ways. Mary and Mary Gray. The purple block doesn't really show the true color.

What size are your blocks turning out to be?

JuneBillie, both blocks are so pretty and dainty. Good color choices.

My blocks are turning out pretty consistent at 6 1/4" unfinished. I have one that is much too small (not a block from the book but one I substituted) so I'll put a border around it.

    Happy Easter, everyone.

Your blocks look great Susan! Is it bad that I don't even measure mine? I haven't done that but probably should. I guess I can when they are finished before I try to put them together.

Thank God, I started this when she was about 8 she's now going on 15 on Christmas Eve?? Surprised she still wants it.

JuneBillie, Nice to see you using brown. Personally, I think brown is underrated these days... but I like it. Most of my blocks are 6 1/2" unfinished, give or take a tad. I use the templates, and sometimes if there are very many pieces, then the block turns out too small. And if there are not very many pieces, sometimes it turns out too big. I'd rather have it be too big and cut off the points, than to be too small and need to add a narrow border. I've done both.

I've started setting some of the blocks so I won't have so much to do later. I think I'll need nearly 5 yards altogether. Is that what the book says?? I started with some fabric from JoAnn's, ran out of it, went to get more, and they are not selling that color anymore. Isn't that the life story of not buying enough in the first place! But since it's scrappy blocks, I don't care if the background is all the same color or not anyway.

buddy'smom, 7 years in the making. So nice she still wants it, patient girl. :-) Show us a pic when you have it done! :-)

    Thanks everyone.

Are all of you using a white between your blocks when you have all of them done? I am thinking ahead a bit.

Oh, I almost forgot after asking you girls. My first couple of blocks were about 6 1/2" , then some are more like 6 1/4". They are also the ones with more pieces.

When it's time to put them together, and you have some blocks that are less than the 6 1/2 " what color do you use to frame around your block?

I have picked out my fabrics for my May block with all those y-seams. I colored the page of the block.

I don't know what I would do without the block template to color, and the little diagram too with it showing which ones to connect after finishing. I use a pencil as I go along, and so when I get another piece sewn on I mark my big dot in that number piece both on the little thing that shows how they go together, and on my big colored block layout. Doing that keeps me sane, sort of. lol..
