Marilyn - we are all working on a quilt-a-long from the Farmer's Wife 30's Quilt Book by Laurie Hird. Below is the link where it all started. If you have the book, or want to get it and start right where we are, you are surely welcome. We do two blocks (6") a week and there is a new thread each week to post our blocks for the week. What you are seeing here are Blocks #19 and #20.

Thanks for the compliments ladies! I'm so glad I decided to do this sew along. I've learned so much from you all, and I can see my skills getting better each week. Also, it doesn't take me an entire weekend to do half a block anymore. Ha!

Huskyquilter, That was quite a challenge you set for yourself to use gingham for the background pieces!! Wonderful success with it, good job!

It's still taking me a long time to do each block. I've got Bride partially cut out and hope to get it done quickly, as I've still got this week's blocks to do. I have a good idea what fabrics I'm going to use for this week though. That's my update. lol

Marilyn, I hope you join us!

Well, givio, you take fussy cutting to an entirely new level! It would take me forever to do that! I actually managed to get a little bit ahead this weekend. finished the ones for this week and next. I might end up redoing bride this week...

Hi Everyone, feeling better but still very tired....I have been working on Caroline and every piece of fabric sewed great until it was time to put the sections together..I wish that the person who did the pping order knew what they were doing when figuring it out...Very few of the seams nest correctly..especially for the 8 pieces that come together for the 1/2 hst's.. I was so careful in sewing these seams just to the stitch line then discovered that the way they lay after joining them there's one enormous lump and no fan out for the seam end... so...I took that whole junction apart and will stitch it back together by hand.. I had to walk away from it a few times..and after scanning it I noticed that the block placement is different than the photo in the book..I may have to redo it if those centers don't come out right...

    I haven't even started next week's blocks yet..oh well, I'll start tomorrow..

Honchey, I agree. IF seams actually nest I get excited. For the most part they don't and its really frustrating. Also, for upcoming block, Cat, I followed the pping templates perfectly and, of course the block was "backwards" so that is annoying. Oh well, it is what it is.

Ok finished Caroline and working on Carolina. Let me show you what I do when I have a block with lots of pieces like this one. I open it in Eq and color it in. I just use any colors in light, Medium and dark just to get a basic design and this is what I am going to do. Working in it now. I made all the corners pp and the middle I will use templates, will post the two when I get done.

Here are my blocks for this week. I took some liberty with the Caroline block-- I used the pattern, but rearranged how the prints were laid out. I see several of us chose to make traditional pinwheels instead of the way the triangle colors were arranged in the book.
