Hello QuiltE - what a great collection of blocks! Love the Union Jack. Very impressed that you have got it the right way up and shifted the red diagonals. People aren't usually so fussy on quilts.

I can remember seeing the maple leaf flag in the paper when it was introduced. Ages afterwards I had a bit of a surprise when I found out it was red. I had always imagined it as green. That would throw your quilts a bit, wouldn't it?

DogHouseMom - "that's nice dear" sounds very familiar. Are all English husbands the same? I'll be smiling all afternoon at that one. Give my love to Essex Boy.

Queen's birthday? Her real birthday is 21st April, but the celebrations are in June with the Trooping of the Colour. Lots of nice pics and a video here http://www.trooping-the-colour.co.uk

Looking forward to seeing some bright cheerful quilts once they're finished!

    Love,
    Muv

    Thanks Muv!
I will confess I did a square version first ... from a PP pattern I found online. However, it just wasn't a flag with it being square so went at 'er again bound and bent to get it rectangular. And you don't know how many times I checked and checked again that I had the diagonals and thicknesses placed in the right corner. Takes some thinking when you know it switches when you flip over a PP! Now a Canadian green flag ... that'd be different!

Here, we celebrate The Queen's Birthday on May 24th ... with the Monday before being a statutory holiday. That being said, it's more recognition and very few festivities. Though fireworks are quite common in many communities on the long weekend. However, I bet most people have no clue about the significance of the day!

A remake ... I was never really happy with the first rendition, so here's the replacement.
MiraB ... you deserved a better one, and I hope you like this one

Thanks DublB ... I think it's far nicer than the first one was.

Those are just gorgeous blocks. I love all the fussy cutting going on. Here is my John's Favourite. The witch's hat fabric is my own design. I used white glue as a resist and painted some off-white broadcloth. It seems quite pale here but, when beside the burgundy/red of Pig's Tail, the purple stands out.
