We had sheep; my brother's FFA project that I took over the care of the sheep. We had to start "cheap" so we bought the smoothed-mouthed ewes. Old ones that would birth another time or two for the lambs. Leaping Lena, an old ewe, would look at my fence mending next to the barn, until she found a hole where she could get through on a daily basis. Old Shep, collie dog, would herd her back in repeatedly during the day. Db was not available during shearing time, either, it fell to me to do. He was always there to get the money that his sheep had "earned" him.

QNSue...sound like you were a good sis. We tried sheep for our kids 4-H project but they didn't last long. At that time we had a hog farm and there were just too many other chores to do and we never had time to learn the shepherding skills. I do like wool batts.

Yup I can remember FIL patching fence all the time. Sure hope DB appreciated all your hard work, QNS.
Wool batts--I got a doll quilt from Tasmania last year and boy what a great feel that little one has with the wool batting. So much I bought wool batting for 3 large quilts when Hancock's batting went on sale. I guess I know which 2 quilts will get the wool (FWS and PC, that is).

    Mary had a little lamb!
..... Little Bo-Peep lost her sheep
.......... Little Boy Blue's sheep were in the meadow
............... Baa Baa Black Sheep have you any wool?

    QE--how clever!

Some of my cousins kids, (is that second cousins or first cousins once removed??????)did show lambs & kids but I didn't see 'em. I found out about 'em when their neighbor's dog got out & killed 4 out of 6 of 'em. Here's the rub, that neighbor is the son of my oldest DSon's boss. Talk about complicated!

I retired back near our hometown; db moved far away...far enough they did not have to see me or talk to me. That's Ok; judge not, and not be judged. I was not religious enough for him; I believe in living the Golden Rule instead of preaching it. They thought I was broke, after they ripped me off for several $$$$thousand. They want to come , fine. If not, I would not be upset over it. Sun still rises every morning, and sets every evening.

Ewe are all so sheep experienced!

QNSue ... I keep encouraging you to get these stories down for your DGS. You could just cut and paste the stories you share here into a file and then someday, you could link them together ... or just leave them as is, as snippets of your life!! It would be such a wonderful gift for him in years to come.
