******whistles a happy tune******

Thanks Ladies, for cheering me on!!
Sorry ... no PC or BBs yet!

Need to get my "adopted" family Christmas exchange gift made first.
The "rules" are that it has to be something that you made.
Last year we discovered all sorts of talents in the group, that were unknown.

So here's what I've worked on today.
I need some suggestions as to what to do next.
Please see notes below the picture ...........

* currently measures 21"x41"; hoping to keep him door size!
* borders?? ... I havent figured that out. So please suggest away!!!
* yo-yo's for his buttons of coal down the front??
* will do some embroidery in white for the glisten in his eyes; discovered I did not have any white embroidery floss
* not sure that the X's for his mouth are noticeable enough?
* scarf needs to be wider, I think
* so far did not put the blue snowflake strip across the bottom, to match the top; thinking he may be better just standing on the border; yes? no?
* any other embellishment ideas???

DublB ... Congratulations to your DDIL!! Did you make her a celebratory quilt?

Here's the link to MiraB's thread ........

MiraB ... those quilts are absolutely outstanding!
To post a link ... just cut and paste the link address at the top of the screen. Somehow it converts it over to the text of what you titled your thread and is a hot link.

QuiltE, what a great snowman.
I would make his mouth more noticeable, don't know how though. More X's? Just try it.
The scarf is ok, when you make it wider the buttons might not be seen. Yo-yo's or real black buttons?
If you want to have him stand on the ground I would make some kind of snow landscape instead of the blue matching the top. When you match the top it will look like he's floating IMHO. No other embellishment ideas

I love your snowman, Quilte. you have button eyes not coal as we do here. The blue in the tie and hat band blend in with the scene, no 'pop' factor or contrast. No white needed in the eyes. Maybe a broom handle out each side for arms, one up and one down, with mittens on the end of each length on each side...more chances for color, along with three buttons down the belly.

Just my 2 cents worth of suggestions, but I think the 'snowman' is Ok; could be a snowlady with a bonnet on her head, flowering scarf, red mouth, 'wig' on her head, colorful buttons down the middle or an apron on her lower middle,, lipstick on her face...you get the picture...or just a skier with ski poles on the side with 'stick' hands and mittens, etc. A cowboy with a ten gallon hat...a baker with a chef's hat...

Yep, imagination is great....doing it is another. Add more contrast to what you have would work...just fine.

Is it a neck tie or a muffler around his neck? If its a muffler or scarf it needs to be wider, fringe on the end. Christmas lights thrown over his shoulders, dangling different colors...like he was going to throw them on a tree would put some action there...again, its a matter of contrast or blending colors. You are the designer!!

I love him QE! I agree ta have him stand on a white border so that he is standin' on snow. I do like the idea o' white embroidery for the eyes. (I've been known ta use what ever thread was around, when I didn't have embroidery floss. It is a lot harder ta use. LOL) I kinda like your tie. Either buttons or yo-yo's would work. Try 'em out & see. I'm thinkin' at least one o' your borders should be a thin red one ta POP. (I like red w/blue) Be sure & show us the results.

I didn't even think o' makin' a quilt for DDIL. Then on Friday I realized the butterfly blocks were just perfect for her. I'll make 'em inta a wallhangin' for her. I do have it all planned out now, but not in time for.
Oops I don't have the pict o' 'em yet, I'll have ta do that latter.

QE, I think your snowman is adorable. Yes, I'd prob make his mouth a little more pronounced but I like his thin scarf. I agree, let him stand in the "snow". He's cute and your friends will love him; I use door hangings all the time on my ugly front door. He'll be perfect.

Question for yinz since I trust your judgement. Do any of you belong to the Pam Bono quilting club? There's a thread on QB that I've been following, lots of good info but I'm still undecided. I love her patterns (except I don't like applique but there are plenty of non-applique patterns). I have EQ7, BlockBase, Karen Stone e-books so I guess I'm wondering if this would be worth purchasing. (Even tho I have these, I still buy patterns and books). Just curious what yinz think and if anyone has joined. Thanks!

I read the thread too and I thought about a membership but I don't think I will become a member. I love her patterns but I don't have enough time to make what I like and I think I better spend the membership money on fabric I do have one of her books with lovely designs but I didn't make one yet.

The phone won't stop ringing

And now someone is dropping something off to me between 2 and 3.
So that has me banished from the sewing room, being that I can't hear the doorbell there.

Thanks everyone! for all the feedback and ideas.
ITA with QNSue ... that it's not popping.
I'm trying to keep away from it being Christmas-y (aka red/green) to make usable for all winter.
Do you think a brighter electric blue scarf would give a better pop-factor?
Snow ... I might have a piece of white with silver that would work for the snowbank.
Still lots of time for your ideas being that the day has been going down hill from a sewing perspective!

JanRN ... I see the Pam Bono name on here from time to time, but know nothing!
If you want it, do it ... after all it's Christmas.
Besides, I totally believe in "from me to me" gifts!!!
