    QE--great job as always!!

So...I have to ask (just because of a conversation I had last week) for those who enter quilts in shows/fairs/etc ...do you give your quilter ribbons won specifically for "machine quilting"?

CarrieM ... one of the hardest thing I find in entering is "reading" or should I say "interpreting" the class info. Very often it is ambiguous and poorly written!

Classes might be specifically for hand quilting or machine quilting or other (tied or strip quilting or?). Machine quilting at one fair/show may include DSM and LA, or it may only be for DSM with a separate class for LA. And some classes will say any type of quilting can be done,

Then there are the other class specs. Size may be specified to a minimum or maximum, generally giving the perimeter as the size. A minimum of 192" is a standard here for machine quilted quilts (whether LA or DSM) or 324" minimum for hand quilted quilts. Though that is not always the rule!

The Fair a couple weeks ago had specific sizes, and you had to have that size or do not enter. So ... the one baby quilt class was 36x54" which would have been the same perimeter as my pink baby quilt at 40x50" but nope, could not enter. A lot of their classes were specific sizes, which cut me out. Those specifics were not even consistent ... one was 48x60, whereas another 40x60 and so on! Then they wonder why they didn't get significant entries in some of the classes?

Sometimes too, the class is open to any size ... so last year, the hand quilted applique class at one Fair had no size specified. I entered Granny59's Mini Dresden Plate quilt .... and it won over some full sized bed quilts. I am sure there was some chatter by the owners of those other quilts!

Quilts are generally in a different section of the entry book to many other sewing and craft classes, including Needlecraft. At some Needlecraft is anything using a needle, thus including quilted work. At some of the others, don't dare go there, they only want knitting, crocheting, cross stitching, etc. Often times this section, I am able to enter runners, table toppers or other smaller items, separate from "real" quilts, yet are quilted.

Then the one that really gets me going is when you call the convener and ask a question, and she has no clue what the answer is! Then gives the response, oh put it in and see how the Judge interprets it. Ummmm ... sorry, I don't want to be disqualified. I want to know if it is a valid entry or not, before doing so!!!!

    arrgghhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!
    Yes, I get very frustrated!
.......... and bite my tongue a lot!!!

    Sorry you asked?

QE--not sorry I asked. I have never entered anything, so didn't realize there were so many regulations at the different places. I looked though our county fair book last year and thought about entering, but the fair was flooded out.

Hi Everyone, I'm very glad to hear the good news with everyone's health issues...

My sewing with the exception of the MB's is on the back burner for now...I don't know why but it seems I've lost my interest...I'm in a sort of lull for now...still reading the posts but have nothing to contribute so I'm quiet.. been running around alot with family obligations and don't have much down time.. will keep in touch...H.

Even the Drs. have warned me that I will have several days of blindness on the 1 st of November and several days after, so I will not be using the computer for at least a week if everything goes right. Bf is trying to set things up to be with me, to guide me along. She knows how DH is going to veiw things and handle the situation. Life he just did my spilled cull glass of ice tea int he living room. ...Bf and her husband were visiting they were the ones who jumped up to help me... alas dh sat on his rear....GRRRR.

Honchey--thanks for checking in even if you aren't sewing. Always good to hear from you.

QNS--sorry that DH isn't helping out. Maybe it will be different after surgery when he knows you can't do it??

Thanks for the "Fair" info QE. A lot to digest. If it were me I wouldn't be sewing I'd be sleeping after your workout!

No I will not "share" the Princess Quilt with my Grands--I'd get roped into making 5 of them! And you all know how well I get "roped" into doing something. This is going to be beautiful mirabelle.

Honchey sometimes we need a break. And with other needs to be attended to a step back may be all you need to be renewed and refreshed to start sewing again.

    Pretty fabrics carrie--very Persian looking.

Sorry about MrQNS's lack of attention--as Carrie says maybe he will be better when your downtime comes.

Wonder how the traveler is doing? Janie's must be having a good time.

Just to show you what 400 mini 9Ps look like

OK, You must be a speed demon on that sewing machine to get 400 9 patches sewn in such a short time. I missed the reason WHY you are making so many 9 patches.
