UGH, Jan and I are not applique fans either!!! I think I'll do mine with machine applique on the DJ, if I do DJ!

Got my list out for Thanksgiving Dinner. I make it easier on myself by baking the turkey the day before! I slice it up and put it in a large pyrex baking dish with juices from the turkey to keep it moist. I only have to reheat it on Thanksgiving day. I have done this for the past few years, and it really helps with all the other dishes that need to be cooked. I also do my potatoes in the crock pot!

Likewise QuiltE, so glad our friends here were safe from the Tornadoes!

I've been closing my eyes to the applique blocks--pretending they don't exist or hoping I'll wake up some day and like applique.

I finished my grab bag gift for my office manager. She lives in an old converted farm house with tons of antiques. I used burgandy & green instead of red & green. Do you think this looks antiquey enough?

Jan--I think that is great. Is it pp'd?

Ggal--you are very ambitious to do that applique BOM, but it is very pretty.

Re: DJ--since I won't be making all the blocks/don't need a big quilt, I am choosing just pp'd blocks to make. Maybe one day I will do applique, but no interest right now.

Sounds like Thanksgiving plans are in the works. We will get together at my mom's that weekend...2 of my 3 sister's and their families will be there. My other sister is pregnant and in NC, so it's too long of drive in the 3rd trimester. We haven't talked about the menu yet, but I will probably take a carrot casserole and maybe potatoes (either party or mashed). We provide the turkey too (DH gets one from work every year)....but I don't cook that, it gets put in the roaster before we get there. Mom usually buys what we tell her to and we do the cooking...she doesn't like to. We always come up with stuff Mom needs in her kitchen. I bought her some good knives a few years back. Can't remember what it was last year we needed...I'll have to check with my sisters.

JanRN ... it's definitely antiquey, and so rich looking. Perfect for a farm house! Lucky Office Manager to be a recipient of your generosity. And to boot ... does not scream Christmas, so she can use it all year long!

JeanieG and JanRN ... me too! The only applique I have done are the two blocks in FWS! I'm going to at least give applique a try and see how it goes.

CarrieM ... nice that you all share the cooking at your Mom's! Definitely your carrot casserole .... I really liked it!

Jan...I'm sure your block will be a hit. It's beautiful.
Here is a link to a method of appliqué I've never heard of but takes all of the mystery out of it and really simplifies it. Those of you that like the Hexies just might find this method something you would enjoy. It's an easy pick up and go project. I did some traditional needle turn many years ago and had a class last year with the wax paper method and hands down, this is easier than both from the looks of it. There are many other tutorials to search out if you are interested. http://appliqueaddict.blogspot.com/2...g-started.html

Thanks for the link GGal ... I see a lot of frustrating hours spent on DJ, the D not necessarily meaning Dear!

Question Ladies .... Please and Thanks!
Faux Suede ....
has anyone worked with it? can you iron/press it? how hot? any other tips and tricks?

I have seen two types ... one that is suede like on both sides (my preference); one that has a satin-like finish on the back side.

I'm thinking of using it in a quilt, in order to give some texture variations. Nuts?

Hi guys,

I apologize for not addressing you each individually, but life is throwing me several curve balls and I am going on a wing and a prayer. No time to read all your news and I am sad about that. I hope all is well with you all.

I got my November MB off in the mail on Tuesday . whew!

We leave for our son's and daughter in law's place on next Tuesday and I have much to do so no time for computers. All the other stuff that's happening is becoming overwhelming so it was so nice to get the mail yesterday and find this from carriem. Thank you Carrie. I love it. It is called Crossroads form Quilters Cache. Doesn't it look striking?

Carrie, you are a genius!!! I'm so anal I was looking at the blocks for DJ to do Row 1, Block 1, block 2, etc., in the exact order. I know I'll never make all 1.5 million blocks in the quilt so why not just do the pp ones???? Brilliant!! I may do one or 2 applique just to keep in practice but like those (bleeping) y-seams in FWS & PC, I don't have to applique. Yay!! Thank you, Carrie, for pointing out the obvious LOL. I'd have never thought of that.

I love the block you made for Janie. Janie, hang in there and take care of yourself. We'll still be here sending virtual hugs; come back and visit when you need to.
