Anne found almost the same recipe on internet; yep, that figures with the modern age of technology. Thanks, Anne. Everyone enjoy being a 'cookie monster'...I would bake on Sunday morning, 110 cookies and son would have eaten everyone of them by Wednesday every week when he was a teenager....along with 3 gallon of milk.

If I skipped anyone's request, please let me know. I think I ended up planting the same tire twice with beans yesterday...so it will be a salad of green and yellow beans. Also planted the Horticulture pole beans and Derby Beans, which the last is a new variety they tell me. Planted turnips, too. Peel those, cut up like potatoes and combine them with potatoes (half and half) when almost done, add a bit of milk(cream,if desired) ,1/4 c. of sugar. a bit of butter and enjoy.

Thanks for the update Anne. Personally I find the "Knight" story interesting. Chickasaw County is the next county over and down from me. When DH was a kid his dad bought a young cow from a man with that surname from that area. Cow's name was STELLA. Always dipped her tail in the gutter and then washed her back with it. DH was disappointed as she never had a heifer calf. Other than her sloppiness she was a very good milk cow.

QNS, never tasted turnips before, but may have to--that potato turnip combo sounds so simple, but sooo good. Today fixed potato/corn chowder for dinner--mumm good and gone. One thing I buy is whole dry milk. With the influx of Hispanics to the area it is now common on the grocery shelf. (They reconstitute if for their kids to drink.) Nestle makes the product in a couple size cans. NIDO is the Spanish name for it. I mix equal proportions of dry milk (NIDO) and flour together and put it in a jar near the stove. Whenever I want to thicken a soup or gravy I stir it into the liquid. Worked great with my chowder today.
Meanwhile back in the sewing kitchen, I'm cooking up a box of chocolates! GS has a basket fundraiser at the Fair to help defray enrollment costs. His club's basket is "Death by Chocolate". One of the dad's made a coffin for the basket, I'm making the lining (a table topper in browns) and they are filling it with lots of chocolate items--candy, chocolate soaps, box of decadent brownie mix, hot chocolate, etc. Will share my finished product when done, Must be done by Monday. Then kids start filling the house on Friday night, some stay the weekend, others all week.

Oh GGal, that sounds so tempting; a KT retreat would be fun. Too bad it's not in the cards, I'm sure Carrie and I would have a great time together if we joined you!

OKSGlad ... great idea on the powdered milk and flour combo! The Death by Chocolate basket sounds like a fun one. Do you have a source for "Chocolate Cheese"? I got some of it a couple years ago when at one of our Farmer Cheese Co-ops during my holidays. It was absolutely incredible ... if you didn't know, most would think it was chocolate fudge! Wonder what other off-beat chocolate items could be found? Oh I've got one ... there are scented markers that smell like chocolates! Candles too! I'm sure you'll come up with an outstanding liner for the basket ... how about some chocolate covered cherries or chocolate dipped strawberries as your table topper? Will these get auctioned at the Fair? I'll be looking forward to seeing what you create ... and what happens at the Fair.

Yes, using a turquoise, but it's much deeper and richer looking than the sample. This will finish out just under 24" square.

OkSewGlad--what a fun project. I really like some of those blocks.

I get to sew this afternoon and have a friend come over. Then tonight I am having dinner with some other friends and going to "card club" (making greeting cards, not playing a card game). It will be a fun day!!
