JeanieG - Can't believe you have your lap quilt put together already, and what a beautiful job. You have given me the look I have been waiting for - the biege sashing, dark cornerstones etc.
Thank you for showing your quilt. Really helps others to get ideas.

ok, I decided to forget the white setting triangles and do a floating type thing here. I just couldnt think of a color I liked well enough, or that wasnt crowding my blocks.
I made the tiny triangles into squares, then forgot to make the setting triangles larger... sigh... this is why I always buy extra fabric
so.. then I will add another orange/brown border, maybe 5to7 inches wide, then a 2inch border all of the way around with more scraps.
do you like it???

I started to practice on some ugly blocks and it is really fun to quilt them individually. I tried a few with the sashing already attached but some, like baskets, are directional and I couldn't keep track of which side to do what so I'm just quilting them without the sashing and will add that later. I was concerned about quilting without a backing, I was afraid the batting would get caught in the feed dogs. No problem. And no wrestling with a huge quilt stuffed thru my machine. I'm anxious to start on my "real" blocks today.

I have a question about layout. Almost all of the pics I've looked at are set "on point". This scares me!! I've never done anything on point. I saw a couple that were set with straight rows, still using cornerstones and sashing. Do you think this would look weird? Of course, it will look like someone did this that's afraid of on point. My blocks are on my design wall straight across and I think they look good. Please give me your HONEST opinion--this has been so much work that I don't want to ruin it at this stage. I practiced setting some on point and get really confused (I am so spatially challenged!) plus I don't know how I'd fit them on my machine when trying to sew rows together (I'm doing QAYG). Sorry this is such a long post but I value your opinions and advice--thanks!
