73b7b168-e3b6-4e78-a51d-91ec93eb1e58.jpegHere’s my color selection. My light green (Background), is #1. Gold is light , purple is medium dark and black is #4 dark. The bottom fabric is my final, final border which I’m adding to enlarge the project. Any suggestions on switching of colors to make it work better on the Overall quilt would be great.

thank-you very much for hosting this mystery. I just love a mystery quilt QAL.

I've been away and have just too much on the go, so I'll sit this one out but I am looking forward to watching everyone's quilts take shape!

I have my 2 steps cut out. Will start sewing tomorrow morning. Decided to go with my pic selected fabric. Curious how it will turn. I figure I could catch up by end of next week.

Yikes, it is Friday and I haven't finished last weeks step. The fabric is sitting on my cutting mat, and has been since last week. I got side tracked with another quilt from my UFO basket. Oops! Off to the sewing room ASAP before the next step arrives.

    Default Week 3

Oy, what a week! No quilting done here. Instead I'm down on the kitchen floor, cutting out cloaks for my garandsons' Xmas presents. And just this morning, my oldest grandson totalled his brand-new motorcycle. He's OK, just a lot of scrapes and bruises and strains. (Or so he says.)

    Anyway, on with
Week 3 - combination units: 48 cream/gold/turquoise (half will be mirror images.)

This week we’re doing what Deb Tucker calls combination units. Again, some people have different names for this, including quarter-square triangles. It’s a good thing we can post pictures, right? They will be made with cream (#1), gold (#2), and turquoise (#3.) The directions for this are very similar to last week’s units.

Cut twelve 4 1/2 inch squares of gold and the same number of turquoise. Draw your diagonal lines on whichever fabric shows them the best, sew 1/4 inch on both sides of the line, cut on the line, press open to the turquoise side. Cut twenty-four 4 inch squares of cream. Draw a diagonal line on the pieced turquoise/gold square, and layer right sides together with the cream squares. Sew 1/4 inch from the marked line. When you press them open, you will see that half of them are mirror images. If you put the cream triangle in the lower left, 24 will have turquoise on the top and gold on the side, and 24 will have gold on the top and turquoise on the side. This is OK! This is what we want.

Again, trim them down to size. Line up one of the diagonals of your combination unit to a diagonal on the ruler and make sure that the center is at 1 3/4 inches. Trim top and side. Rotate the unit 180 degrees, keeping the same diagonal lined up with the ruler line, the center on the 1 3/4 mark, and the first trimmed edges on the 3 1/2 inch mark. Again trim top and side.
