Hey gals I got to the food car and the it was all gone. sob, sob, sob. You could have at least left me a few crumbs all that lingered was the aroma and it smelled so good, hope it stated as good as it smelled. Please straighten me out, we started with 6 7/8" blocks, than you said 7" were better, we could cut them down to the correct size, now we are down to 5" or 5 1/8" blocks, I am a beginner and do not understand what size I should cut the blocks, I am sure you ladies, the experts know exactly what Judy is talking about. Please excuse me for being kind of dumb, if there is such a thing. I like to think there is still hope for me. All of the material pictured is very pretty I will post my colors after I have the blocks cut the correct size. I read somewhere that you cannot make the same mistake twice, because the second time is not a mistake it is a choice. My choice is to get it right the first time.

CarolineS - the more I think of it, when I was experimenting with the new ruler, I tried to cut them 5-1/4 but made them too wide and needed to keep nipping off a piece before cutting a new block. But I think I made them 5-1/8" - seeems silly, but it was better.
I did mine 5" and used the 6.5" line and all was well. Below are my fabrics in the first picture, they're listed A-F from right to left. I'm undecided on which will be E and F but I suppose I can figure that out when we get to that point. The second picture is my square and clue #2 completed.

I decided I would make some of my mom's old fashioned hard fudge and gooey butter cake for the train ride. I think we're going to need one whole dining car just for desserts!

Everyones blocks are so nice, will be working on mine tomorrow. ShiAnnF you need to cut your blocks 7" and you can square up after sewing and pressing. The other size strips were for the people useing a specialty ruler using the tube method. Hope this helps and not confuse you more LOL

ShiAnn, start with a 7" inch square of A/B. mark the diagonal and sew 1/4" inch away from that line, both sides of the line. Cut on the drawn line, Press open and then "sliver" trim the squares to 6-1/2". The 5" and other sizes you were seeing was where someone was using a special ruler. General rule of thumb is to add 1/2" to unfinished size of your first set of squares. No dumb questions by the way. We weren't born knowing all this stuff LOL You can also search the net/any mag for gen directions. Good luck Retta

Cindy, like the red and white. MMMM the spaghetti and garlic bread sounds awesome. I can smell the garlic already. Make a BIG pot because I am sure there a lot of hungry quilters on board. Can we see a pic of your new furbaby? Sounds like you have a new Quilt Inspector in training, LOL.

No, unfortunately I don't have enough of the old E. Pulling the gray and going shopping again. Will focus on trying to find another mid range blue to match. Thanks Judy and everyone on input.

Did people just confuse me? LOL

I cut a bit to square up my blocks to 6.5 after sewing -- I originally cut them at 7". Is that right?

LUANNH - you said 2nc pix is closer to real colors - I fell that maybe your E is too similar to your D and to the background of A to stand out with either combination. Remember what I said about having contrast?

reeskyler, sauki and cindy60545 - very pretty fabric blocks

reeskyler - yes, you are to have 6-1/2" blocks at this point. If you cut at 7", you trim to 6-1/2" square

    Jenniky -
