You can choose anything you like, it's your quilt and you should make it to fit your decor. There are no rules, unless you want a traditional Album quilt. If anyone does, look at one of Elly Sienkiewicz books or go to here website to see how she does them. www.ellysienkiewicz.com
On your fabric color 1... do you mean all those in the picture equal
2 1/2 yards total? I've never made one of these, but I'm thinking I would like to give it a try.
yes, at a minimum, I bought a yd of each because I will always use it up in something else.

I would love to join also. I have done some applique but not a lot but I love the patterns on the quilt so I want to see if I can do them. I love the look of needle turn applique.

No problem, although this is a bom, you can work at your own pace. :D

I'm a newbie, so this is going to be a challenge, but I'm looking forward to it.
I will need to download the pattern because I don't have an EQ.
    Thank you for doing this.

I haven't done applique by machine or hand. I think I'm going to try doing machine applique. Looking forward to learning this. I'm learning pp'ing and I know I can do this, also.
