The New Farmers Wife '30's Quilt-Along

Thanks for posting the cover of the book, Honchey. I should have also mentioned that the layout of this quilt is completely different from the Dear Jane. In fact, the only similarity to Dear Jane is that they both have a huge variety of block patterns.

Hi Evelyn, There is no official sign up...Any one that wants to do this ride just has to tag along with the rest of us.
One of the requirements is you must have the book..There is no copying or trading allowed.. that's not fair to the author of the book. Amazon and several of the online quilt shops have the book.
We're a very friendly group and do help & encourage each other.. No quilt police in this group... so come along.. there's still time to get the book, fabric etc..

Okay Ladies, here's a tip I just learned from QNS. It's about reducing bulk when 8 seams meet at a point.. sew the seam from the outside to the center of the point stopping at the cross stitching line, back stitch or turn it around and make several stitches so the seam won't open.. do this to all the seams...trim the joining seams then sew together...tear the paper so that you can lay the seams flat in opposite directions and Voila! the center will twirl open... I am so tickled that it worked so I have to pass it on...Has anyone else been doing this with PPing?

Honchey, so instead of sewing to the end of the seam and then tearing out a few stitches in order to be able to swirl the seams, you just don't sew to the end and reinforce the remainder of the seam with a few backstitches. Is that right?

Honchey, thanks for posting that. That will make things much easier! I printed and cut out the templates for Alice this morning and good lord there are some tiny pieces in that one! No wonder people save every scrap!

Thanks Honchey for the tip. I will give this a try. I now have the book but am having trouble printing. With the Farmer's wife, I just went to the block I wanted and printed the pp with no problem. This is a completely different ballgame. I'll have to work this out!
Have a great day everyone!
