No, rulers are thick enough that they don't warp. I put a small piece of wood simple to keep them from falling forward, so they wouldn't knock the tiny ones off. I think I had seen one like that with the angle but probably didn't need it. Mary probably made hers by slicing with a table or radial arm saw, cutting slices crossways across the wood. The blade would probably make a thick enough slot, or else would just move the 2 x 4 a bit and take off another skoch.
I took a couple pictures in case you want to make one or have someone with a saw make one. 
I had to hang a piece of fabric behind it so the glare wouldn't interfear. Mine holds from a 2 1/2"x2 1/2" to a 12" x 12" with no problems. I've used it for about 3 maybe 4 yrs and nothing has warped yet. 
That purple quilt is going to be fabulous. I love the last layout.

Lawsonmugs, thanks for the photo because when it was described all I saw in my mind were the cuts across the short side of the 2x4. This way is so much more logical. I'm going to make one. After I catch up on the mystery, of course.
