    Hello!

January 2011, this group will begin the journey through "Pieced Applique: Intricate Blocks Made Easy" by Penny Haren. She has several books so be sure you get the right one. There is a photo of the book at the bottom of this page. You do need to buy the book. This is a friendship group with no teacher... just friends playing, learning, and laughing together.... the technique and patterns are in the book.

We all will be making our own blocks to keep, but pacing ourselves together, 1 block per week. We can compare notes on the hard parts, and enjoy seeing photos of other quilter's blocks.

Proposed Schedule: (This is the date to begin each block. You then have all week to make it and hopefully post a photo sometime before the next week begins.)

January 2, 2011: Read the first part of the book pg 1-27. Make 3 Foundation Blocks: 6-1/2" Foundation Block, Four-Patch Foundation Block, and Nine Patch Foundation Block.

January 9: Half Square Triangle Foundation Block, Pinwheel Foundation Block, and Kaleidoscope Foundation Block.

January 16: Quarter-Square Triangles Foundation Block, Set on Point Foundation Block, and Bright Hopes Foundation Block.

January 23: Catch Up Week.... be ready to start the "real blocks" next week.

    January 30: Laura's Cathedral Window, page 52.

    February 6: Patrick's Spotlight, page 54.

    February 13: Rosellen's Cross, page 58.

February 20: Advanced Liberty Star, page 62

February 27: Indiana Puzzle, page 68.

    March 6: Catch Up Week.

March 13: Chain of Diamonds, page 70.

March 20: Rising Star, page 72.

    March 27: Prosperity, page 74.

April 3: Michael Squared, page 76.

    April 10: Nosegay, page 78.

April 17: Catch Up Week... between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday.

    April 24: Barb's Spinning Star, page 82.

May 1: Blazing Star, page 84.

May 8: Rolling Star, page 88.

    May 15: Shirley's Star, page 90.

    May 22: Starlight, page 92.

    May 29: Catch Up Week.

June 5: Kaleidoscope Star, page 94.

June 12: Royal Diamonds, page 98.

    June 19: Snowflake, page 104.

June 26: Facets of Jenn, page 106.

July 3: Virginia Snowballs, page 110.

    July 10: Catch Up Week.

    July 17: Bird's Nest, page 114.

    July 24: Chris's Compass, page 118.

    July 31: Sarah's Star, page 120.

    August 7: Bill's Bright Hopes, page 124.

I love the blocks on the cover of this book!! What size are the blocks that we would be making? Are they all 6" finished blocks?
I am seriously contemplating this :D:D:D

The blocks finish at 6". Then there is a design idea in the back of the book to make these blocks into the centers of 12" star blocks.... optional. Also the book advises you to go to www.landauercorp.com for alternate quilt settings and also for downloadable templates for this book.

I am getting excited about this. Just putting a schedule together means that I really am going to work/play through this book and not just let it sit on the shelf!!!

    hugs, Jupiter

Thank you for the explanation and the references to the other site :D:D:D
I have gone online and checked out the book... I can say that I am 90% certain that I will be in on this with you :D:D:D
Now.... to figure out my fabrics, I think I will have to go with at least some batiks :D:D:D

This looks like fun, I may do this, also in batiks. By January my life should be setting down a bit and I can commit to something!!! I actually think I have this book.

Ordered the book yesterday...I'm so excited...a new book to look at while I recouperate and an excuse to fondle and plot out the fabric.

For each block, there are photo of 3 different fabric ways.... including one in batiks! The batiks are nice but do not really provide any stripes or fussy cut-able spots. You might want to read the beginning of the book before buying fabric.

I just ordered the book... Looks like fun! Need to stock up on my batiks - I think these blocks would make a beautiful wall-hanging in batiks!

I like how you gave us the catch up weeks - thanks for making a thoughtful schedule... :D
