Somehow, I have unknowingly changed my settings and can't print "Foundation Pattern" from Print as it is grayed out. I can still print the Block and Templates. Has anyone had this problem? If so, do you know how correct it? If I start a new project, then it is available...

Thanks

So Kathy, please explain the center/border tri challenge? I plan to sew my Jane on my machine, you are scaring me half silly. Are you sewing on scallops after you attach the tris?

I'm doing this whole thing by hand, so I an winging it with the scallops. The Dear Jane book doesn't have a single mention about attaching the triangles or fabric for the scallops. I laid it all out on a large piece of paper and drew the curves. I decided to do one large curve at the corners instead of the 3 like Jane did. Again, there was no help in the book.

Now, I am having a bit of a struggle handpiecing the triangle strips to the center unit. Don't know why, except that I am letting the majority of the center rest on my ottoman and am leaning over to sew. It's just too hot to get all snuggly under the top - for now. Perhaps it's just the logistics of my arrangement that is causing me to fight. Also I find that the seam allowance from that tiny 1/4" outside sashing (or border) all the way around is fiddly and gets in the way. I am sewing from the triangle side. I think maybe I should have pressed it towards the blocks instead of away from them. I think I am going to need to re-press all the sashing seams away from the blocks so I can quilt down the middle of the sashings. There are way too many seam allowances on that back side, but what are you going to do?

I hope to get the third strip sewn down tonight and the 4th one pinned. Then, while we are in Albuquerque, I might get that 4th strip sewn.

Don't let my troubles get you hesitant. I have been considering making another Jane only this time I'll use the software. Then I won't have to worry about all these seam allowances that need to be kept free - not sewn down. I can sew down all I want.

I have 4" wide strips of muslin marked and ready to sew onto the triangles. The scallops are marked, but it is wider than I need so that there is something to let the hoop grab onto while quilting the edges. I use an oval hoop for the outside edges of a quilt, but you still need a little bit more than a seamallowance it you don't want to be repositioning your hoop every 10 stitches. :)

Good luck and enjoy the journey! I am.

I have seen a pattern for the scallops in the software. Go into Motifs, the scallops are in their ladies. a pattern for them in . Maybe you have just not spotted them.

Donīt know why you are having the gray come up now, perhaps. Check the manual may come up with something. Or you can get help on line.

Everyone is doing so well, keep up the good work Meredith and Kathy

I didn't get any done last night. I had to get all the pieces ready to applique to this IRR that I really need to get out this week. I recieved it very late...and I hate to take too long getting it done. I may have to take a short break from Jane to finish it.

Wil..I looked in the book about your printing issue...I didn't see anything about that. I will say though that in the quite a few of the last blocks...you can't print a foundation pattern...its not available. I printed those as blocks and then cut it into my own patterns. Sometimes I would have to print the blocks several times to get all the units that I needed. I was so used to the seam allowance being on the foundation patterns and I like it that way...so I would print more than one copy of the blocks. If its not that...you can email EQ..they are quick to help.

I don't have a clue how mine will go together after the quilting..I will be sewing it on the machine. I decided to do it this way because I've already tried quilting a little table runner made with the Jane blocks. It wasn't very large- yet it was really difficult for me to quilt it. So..I decided to give Lesley's method a try. I still may do the final QID by machine when I make the sandwich.

Keep plugging Kathy and Meredith!

Meredith, I looked further for a solution to your issue in the software. When you go to File, then down to preferences...that would be where you might have inadvertently changed something, but I don't see how. I couldn't find any setting for what you are describing. I'm thinking that you are on a group of blocks where the FP just isn't available..there are quite a few of those just about where you are in the week count. Can you see if you can click on FP on a different block?

I did consider doing the SID by machine Patti, and if I had, I wouldn't have done each individual square at a time, I was going to go down a whole row, just skipping over the sashing and starting again at the next block. Once all of those were done in one direction, then I was going to turn the quilt and do the other direction. I'll be interested to see what you decide to do when you get to that part.

If I do it by machine, that is exactly how I will do it Lesley. Its a lot of starting and stopping though...hmmmm...I'll have to think about it some more.

Thanks Patti for looking, I did change the font at one point because I liked another one better, but then I changed it back after I realized I couldn't use the foundation pattern print function.

It all started when I tried to reprint J-4 because I didn't like my fabric choices and I thought after all my blocks were done I would rework that one. I attached a pic of my screen.

Leave it to me to make it more difficult than it should be! :?

After I opened and closed and created a new file, that I didn't even save, it seems to work fine now...whatever

Elle, it's good to hear from you. It's been some time.

We're in Albuquerque - I did my own shop hop this afternoon and visited a Hargbor Freight I noticed located next door to 2nd shop. Got a carpet cutter for the 3 blades - $3.99. We return home tomorrow afternoon.

sandpat 11-10-2010 04:47 AM

Meredith, I'm so glad you got it figured out. Sometimes I think there are just glitches in that software.

So..did you find other good stuff in you shop hop Kathy? Ya'll be careful going home..
