I'm going to try the freezer paper piecing methode! There are some DJ blocks I ran away from till now because they're quite hard to do. I hope with this method it's a bit easier.

I use freezer paper for most of my DJ and any other paper piecing block. Finish block comes out perfect.

Just caught up on this thread. January 15th sounds good to me, because I still have to buy the book, etc. I have been collecting fabrics and have found some really neat ones.
I am concerned about the background. I found the perfect fabric, but there is only 6 yards on the bolt. Can I squeeze that out, or maybe use a different fabric for the triangles? Would that look bad? Dumb question, but if I can't get a printer before we start, can I just trace the patterns out of the book? Thanks! |
I have the book, CD, rulers and fabric. Ready to go. I am also have problems with the background fabric. Don't know if I want all the same background or mix & match my light fabrics. I have put together about 10 blocks a few years back in a class. The teacher downloaded the patterns from DJ's CD and would play around with the correct measurements so we were able to paper piece some of the blocks. She would hand out the next weeks block with the correct cutting and sewing instructions. I've tried doing the same thing without success. Looking forward to the class. Really want to finish this quilt before I really get old!

meme....many of us in the 1st Jane Cyber sew group ended up devising our own paper piecing patterns as we went along. There are some errors in the software patterns (sorry, can't remember which blocks) and then some of them wouldn't print as a paper piecing pattern.....so we would print out the "Block", then segment it out ourselves so it could be paper pieced.

I'm also in and going to give it a try. I purchased the book many years ago and haven't done any, maybe this will get me going. Am thinking that with my EQ7 program I might be able to draw out some of the blocks and then print the templates or paper piecing which ever I may need.
