#9 is a snap outside of paper piecing. It's just nine squares with eight of them halved. Maybe try a mix of paper piecing the busy blocks and using templates, or just eyeballing, the simpler blocks.

Congrats on pushing through the frustration. Love the fabrics in #10.

Yes, that's what I'm hoping that when I take my blocks off the paper that I'll be able to iron them out and gain that 1/4". I can always try wetting them and blocking them too.

Thanks for the encouragement!

Nonnie, sorry about the size issue, but as long as you're consistent, it won't matter if the block are 6 1/4" or 6 1/2"...what would be a bit more tricky would be to have them all different sizes, then it cold present more of a challenge to work with...your color choices and work is great!

Pssst...and don't forget, someone was very happy to pick up your work and take it home with them! :D

Nonnie, your blocks look fine and as has been said as long as they are all coming out that size I wouldn't be concerned.
I had hoped to catch up this weekend but that didn't happen, you all are way ahead of me already.
Keep up the great work.

As for blocks coming out 1/4" shy, would it help to block these to try to coax them into the right size? I haven't tried it before, but have read about it on the board here and people say it works if you only need to grow your blocks a smidge. If anyone tries and finds it successful, please let us know.

Hello - I have been struggling along as well. I was able to get my hands on Marti Mitchell template sets A and B. I now try to rotary cut strips and then piece the templates and cut. The cutting takes the most time. I also have been really making my seams smaller. All these things seem to help. But I also have found that I need to be very careful when I press as I have seen a piece stretch a LOT when I pressed it and moved the iron too much. then the resulting seam was not straight. All I can say is I hope I am getting better. This will not be a perfect quilt fo rme but a learning quilt.

Hi Everyone, I think I've finally (almost) caught up. Just when I thought I had, I read a posting this evening that said we are on Blocks 17 & 18 this week. By my count I thought we were on 15 & 16 and they'd be due on the 5th. Whatever - I'll get there. Life has been hectic and I've woefully been playing "catch up" from the very beginning of this project. I couldn't rest until I had ALL my fabrics for ALL the blocks chosen, purchased washed and folded (and a good bit of them cut...not as many as I'd like cut but at least a month ahead). Now I just have to figure out what blocks I'm supposed to be working on. I haven't even had ANY time to read anything on the board since maybe August 10th or so. So tonight I hope to post all my blocks that I've done to date (and I guess I should repeat this message with each week's photo?) Hopefully I can stay with the group & ask questions of the group instead of pulling my own hair out. I am paper piecing and so far I've enjoyed this, even the frustrations that I have caused myself. I'm pretty sure I can be counted as a "convert" to paper piecing. Can't wait until I find time to look at everyone's posted blocks. Cathy in Baltimore County MD
