CookieLM ... you're doing fine! We only get better, if we keep trying and practicing ... so ... at the end of this trail ride, take a look at your first blocks and you'll see how much you have improved along the journey. Have you tried PPing? That's how some of us are getting our blocks looking so accurate. We're all here and willing to help you, just send some smoke signals!! :)

oksewglad 03-01-2012 03:48 PM

Cookie when we see your first 15 we will be able to see how well you have picked your colors. You have been selecting fabrics with a lot of contrast (as in both of these blocks) which draws attention to the pieced designs! Way to go.

Oh yes! I know
CookieLM's blocks are going to look incredibly beautiful together!

Cookie, I love your blocks and the colors you're using. If this was my first quilt, I'd have run when I saw the first block!! I think you're doing a super job and like QE said, we're here to help. Wow--I can't believe this is your first quilt!

dublb 03-01-2012 07:11 PM

Aneal - Such a pretty Clover Blossom! Those pretty little white flowers are just the right touch!

Windiq - The 4 blocks were 7 3/4" X 7 3/4" each. I don't remember what I subcut the 4 patch. I just moved the ruler till it looked right. CJ's tut is easy to follow. After I finished it I measured it & trimmed it down to 8 1/2 "

Cookie - Such original lovely blocks! Great colors! First quilt! WoW!

CookieLM ... Here's my story ... A year ago, I had absolutely no use for PPing. Believe me, as I wouldn't even consider a pattern that was PPing! And now, I sing a different song .... Dot-To-Dot meets Paint-By-Number! It took me awhile to get my own rhythm with it, and now I see it as a totally easy-peasy way of piecing .... even y-seams! The results are so worthwhile. That alone was my inspiration to work thru the perspiration of the challenge, and I am so glad I did. You will be too!!!

Here's the Milestone Thread ... we'd love to see your bunch together!

JanRN is our new PP Queen ...... perhaps she'll share some words of wisdom??

Bev/Dublb.......Thank you for the block measurements. I just made one that will be a substitute for one I don't want to make...otherwise known as one with a "Y seam"....LOL! I did find a tutorial on the Anita Grossman site.....she did a quilt in that was featured in Quiltmakers http://makeitsimpler.blogspot.com/se...3A%20Arrowhead. I don't know if this will get you there, but I had just searched for Anita Grossman Soloman and then on the right side of her blog, I clicked on the Arrowhead block.....she shows how to make it with NO waste at all.....and it is easy to do.....

Here we go with my latest 2. The clover fabric was the first KT fabric I ever bought years ago. Just a FQ and have been reluctant to use it --you know how it is when you hate to cut into a fabric you really like. Well glad I waited cuz this was the perfect pasture to use it in. Now only wish I had more of it.

JeanieG 03-02-2012 07:53 PM

Gosh those are beautiful fabrics you using oksewglad! Great work!

QuiltE 03-02-2012 08:00 PM

*drool* *slobber*
All.Over.The.Keyboard!

You're darned right, O
KSGlad ... you couldn't have found better fabrics for that Clover Blossom block!!!!
Now you have a challenge ahead to come up with an equal for the Clover Leaf that's coming up.
Pretty decorative Corral!

BETTY62 03-02-2012 08:03 PM

Love the bright colors.

dublb 03-02-2012 08:25 PM

OK - Such lovely blocks! I love your interpretation of 'em. Lovely colors!

oksewglad 03-02-2012 09:29 PM

"Thanks," she quietly says as she shyly ducks her head.

gardnergal970 03-03-2012 05:53 AM

OK...you are using those Kansas Troubles fabric to perfection. So nice when you have an entire group to coordinate. I might try that with my next class quilt.

oksewglad 03-03-2012 07:18 AM

Ggal--glad you are not twirling around in the awful Midwest weather! I have also used fabrics from Jo Morton, Thimbleberries, Henry Glass as they fit into the colors. Takes the matchy matchy out of using 1 fabric line.

janRN 03-03-2012 09:07 AM

Beautiful blocks, OK. I love how your fabrics are soft yet show so much contrast. Very very pretty.

Termi 03-04-2012 02:04 PM

Cookie LM, I love the color combo's in both your blocks, they look great!! Your quilt will be beautiful!! This is my first real quilt too. I've struggled but learned a lot, not just by doing the blocks but with the help of the great people on this trail ride!

oksewglad, nice job on both your blocks and really lovely clover fabric!!! Wish I had some.

Windi, I'm sorry, somehow I didn't see your post before. I'm so glad that we live in a time that we can find all of these different ways & methods to make our blocks. I think that we each have to find the best method for each of us.I'm looking forward to seeing your block.:)

wendiq 03-05-2012 07:14 AM

OKSEWGLAD Your fabrics are perfect. And I love the way you and so many other's use the "rancher lingo" in your posts.....as you can tell, I'm just a city gal......on the outside, but not the inside....LOL!

oksewglad 03-05-2012 12:22 PM

Thanks wendi and Termi--one of the appealing qualities of KT fabrics is that you can select pieces (like the clover fabric) sold years ago and pair it with a piece bought last month (the dark green). I need to check a LQS, I think they have some of the clover fabric in their inventory yet. Next time I head south I will check it out. Are you really interested in it Termi? I could get some for you if they still have it. PM, ok?

oksewglad, I would love to have that fabric if it's not too much trouble. PM absolutely ok.

Another pair of striking blocks. Wonderful color placements,Janie!

janRN 03-08-2012 06:18 PM

Worth waiting for Janie. Very pretty blocks and really nice contrast.

JanieW 03-09-2012 05:42 PM

Thanks, Jan and ok. I'm playing catchup so I appreciated the relative simplicity of these blocks. Everyone's are so well done and the fabric choices outstanding.

Hey ... you have good reasons there, GrannyJanieW! Lovely with their softness and simplicity of design and fabrics selected.

As you mentioned in a later post ... isn't it nice to have some simpler blocks mixed in, once and awhile. We need them for a bit of a calming effect, I think.,

Remember way back when I was sick and did the Colt's Corral ... and knew I shouldn't have done it?
How's this for the replacement?

oksewglad 04-24-2012 09:16 PM

I love it!!! Who would've thought those calves could see between the fences? The yellow on the outer edges seem to attract attention to the boards.

JeanieG 04-24-2012 10:24 PM

Oh how cute is that block QuiltE! Just love the "peeping" cows! LOL

carriem 04-25-2012 04:59 AM

QE--great fussy cutting with the cows. :) I agree about the yellow on the edges...it really makes the center of the block "pop".
