Here is Step 4. I am ready for the border(s)! Now it is time to stop playing and to get going on a UFO this last day of the month.https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/boy.gif

I'll have some catching up to do when I get home but I'll be ready by the reveal

It's just too tempting. Pulled the fabric and joining the group. Now I'll need to buckle down.

Week 5

Week 5 - 2" HSTs 54 cream/turquoise
If you are contemplating making a larger quilt than a lap quilt, you may or may not want to do this step at this time, because we’re making border units. We are making units that will finish at 2 inches, not 3 inches. Cut twenty-seven 3 inch squares of either cream or gold and the same number of turquoise. (The fabric amounts that I gave you at the beginning were for cream, so take that into account.) Following the same directions as previous weeks, make 54 HSTs and trim to 2 1/2 inches. Sew the 2 inch HSTs into two long columns of 27 blocks each, alternating directions. If the turquoise triangle is at lower left on the first block, it should be at lower right on the second. Cut 3 strips of chocolate at 1 1/2 inches. Sew the strips end to end. Measure your HST strip sets and cut 2 chocolate strips at that length. If your seams are accurate, that should be 54 1/2 inches. (You may want to wait to cut these borders to see exactly how big your quilt center actually is. Mine tend to grow.) Sew a chocolate strip onto one side of each HST strip set. Cut 5 strips at 2 1/2 inches. Sew end to end into one long strip and save for next week. |
I have all of my hst cuts and strips cut. I'm waiting to put the hst together to make the border after I get the top made.

Eeeeep! That last paragraph should have specified that the 2x1/2 inch strips were the chocolate brown, #4.

Finished Wk 1 last night and will do Wk 2 today. My colors are wo cream, md tone electric lime greed, scrappy reds and very dark mixed colors of green and purple. The choices were made partially by finding a piece big enough. Value contrast is great.

Got wk 2 & 3 finished. Tomorrow expect to finish Wk 4.
So I'm reviewing wk 5 and trying to decide whether to use the white on cream or the green. My method is just to size and doesn't require triming. So I'd be cutting strips of 2.5 inches and would need 2 strips. I'd like to have more green in the top. Does wk 6 use the gold (my green) fabric? |
