Row Robin Quilt Along
I've finally finished my first strip - sky. I tried different ways to do Northern Lights but being the row is only 13" high Bargello didn't look right so I just pieced strips. I've never posted a picture to this board so don't know if the picture will come thru. If I can't do it on my IPad, I'll try posting it again tomorrow on my desktop computer. If you remember my previous post said my theme is Northern Minnesota.
thanks

Well - it looks like my first attempt at posting worked. The two trees on the right show up kind of dark on the picture but in reality they do show quite well. Now I have to start on my water row and for Minnesota naturally that would be lakes. Gotta think on that one a bit.

travelinggramma Your water, sky and kites are awesome. How did you get your curves to not bunch up? I tried sewing my sky in a curve and cant figure out how to do it. If course I dont have as many beautiful blues as you do but that to may happen in my future.

oh those northern lights are gorgeous! I love it! can not wait to see what you do next your color choice is wonderful and you made it look so easy .. I hate applique. I suck at applique lol I can do blanket stitch around everything but its not the same as a turned under seam. is anyone good at that and have a good reference site to go to learn it? I am willing! I need it lol.
I have a doc appointment this morning and then I will be back and geared and ready to work on the next block or two.

those lights out amazing - and the silhouettes are perfect. Never seen the lights - maybe one day! Keep up the great work. My hands can't handle more than the quilt binding - and that is only in small doses.

Well - guess what ladies I don't do appliqué either. Right now my Northern Lights are secured on with spray basting and when the quilt top is done, I will FMQ everything down with different kinds of stitches with either invisible thread or different colored threads so you see you don't have to do folded under appliqué. I love to do FMQ on my domestic machine (Janome) so if you do FMQ you can do appliqué! I know everyone is not comfortable with FMQ but from what I've seen so far, your techniques whatever they are are awesome. Am loving seeing what everyone is doing. Happy quilting.

ok confession, hanging head down low.. I didn't get my row done. I have cut the fabrics but I had to finish that boom and then I got this silly idea to sort some more fabric and remove the parts I don't want. three boxes of stuff was sitting right in the middle of the room and disorder kills me. sooo I got it my head to just sort a bit so it was orderly. three boxes later under the shelves and in part of the closet I went. I was so tired I was ready to flop over and cry. lol. make a mess you pay the price I think. so I feel better found two ladies who would like to pick it up for their own quilting and it felt good. now to finish the closet and my crafts left over and see how much is needs or wants. wants I can do without. needs is a different story. it will be interesting to find a need for most of it but glitter? I NEED MY GLITTER lol and maybe those beads and well this will be an interesting challenge. thinking it will wait til next week sometime. I am tired. and I have to get to my ocean but it is cut and on my board which is a big start. it just requires sitting and figuring out how much offset I want each row. then finishing up the rows so they can be cut evenly on all sides. I need the waves to go down into the next row .. the lapping shore ones. so I think one more row on the next section to finish it. made the pieces 2.5 inches but thinking skinnier would work better. groan. more work! hope to get on it tomorrow. did anyone make any progress this weekend? anyone start this weekend? we love pictures so please share them. I am surprised more people have not joined or at least given this a try. its easy and its fun and its creative. if you haven't started now jump on in! traditional row robin or perhaps more artsy and doing this one a row into the pictures of our dreams. read some of the past information and jump on in. its so early in the game its ok. heck you can start half way through it and still end up with something cool you have made. so why not start now?
