I made the appointment and then called back and canceled. I will not pay this. I'll cut it myself. I already went to "washing that gray right out of my hair" MYSELF... What about where you live?

I am a cosmetologist and have a small shop at my home,I live in a very small older community. I paid the very same price that all the bigger shops pay for supplies taxes and fees. Many of my customers have come to me for 20 years.Five years ago I went up on my prices to 12.00 and many of the jobs here went south. So some peolpe just dont get their cut as often, some quit coming. I haven't gone up on my prices in five years,I buy my supplies when they are on sale to keep my cost down, and have decided that 12.00 every 5 weeks and 40.00 every 3 months for perms is much better than 0.But boy would I like to get 35.00 for haircuts for one month.

My hair has become more wavy/curly over the years. I wear it short and tussled so, it's very easy to cut myself.
My last color job was not so wonderful though. I ended up with 'hot roots' and need to use a blending rinse now. Oh well...it's still WAAAAAAY less expensive than the $90+ that they wanted for a cut and color at the salon. Funny thing...I get compliments every day on my color now...go figure!

My daughter is a beautician. I don't have to pay her. Although it seems like every time she orders from Avon, I end up paying for it, every time we go out to lunch, I end up paying for it, every time she doesn't have money for gas, I end up paying for it....hmmmmmm, I figured it out and every time she does my hair it costs me about $125 bucks. Go figure,,,,I am going to have to talk to her about this little scam she is running!!! LOL Does the same with her dad too.!!!

I am the first person to tell you I don't spend any money(on anything!) I have never had any training in hair cutting or styling, but I am fortunate that if I see something done I can usually copy it. I cut my husband's & son's hair,(he's 14 & just requires the electric clippers!)I mostly trim my own, or when my 20 yr old girl is home I have her cut my hair, & she also trims/cuts the 17 yr old girl's too. She is also self taught but talented! Saves me TONS of $$$$$! :)

beauty school is very expensive and in some states includes chemistry, electronics and a lot of what may seem not important -- BUT how would you like to lose your hair because a person didn't understand the strong chemicals used. And they are chemicals -- not just "color"
I am going to try very hard to match up with a stylist that will know what I try to tell her/him I want. When I got here last night, he really loved the way my hair looked. And it held its style after 4 days on the road.
I am willing to pay for a good job -- just as I am willing to pay for a good sweater or fabric.

PS: anybody in the Olympia WA who knows a good hair dresser nearby??
