I saw that too! Necessity is the mother of invention. Also "art" is probably what distinguishes humans from other mammals.
My "joke" is that people used to build pyramids and such because they didn't have tv -- but it is amazing what people can do.

One of the majors in my department at the university is Fashion Design. A former professor, a curator of fabric introduced us to fabric history, We all learned so much from her so this article caught my attention. Twill pants designed for a mounted rider! Who would have thought of applying such intricate technology in garment design.

Gotta love what manages to survive the ravages of time. I wonder how long it took to weave these pants and whether or not it was a team of people doing it or not. Unless someone wrote about it back in the day, it is going to be hard to figure it out one way or another. Think about what we've lost from the understanding of how to weave for protection once the machines take over!
