It always amazes me that people can be so snooty. I really try to go out of my way to be kind and nice and truly mean it. I adore this one quilt shop that has shown me kindness and they are really wonderful ladies who work very hard and are extremely dedicated to quilting. I asked why they were not participating in the shop hop next month. Apparently whomever sets up the shop hop does not want to include their shop, as they are "not enough of a quilt shop" or something like that. I'll leave it at that, but it puts a bitter taste in my mouth.

Could it be that people who've done the shop hop in the past have complained? I would think that would be the only reason a shop would be dropped. I could be wrong though, it's happened before.
It may not matter in the future. In our area fabric companies used to donate the fabric for the shop hops. This year they only donated 50% of it AND limited the choice of fabrics. They picked the fabric and said, "This is what we'll donate at 50% off but you must use these three fabrics and our blenders." Since the fabrics and colors they chose weren't very pretty it was a challenge for the shops to come up with a pattern that looked halfway decent. I didn't do the hops. (there's two here)

You are right raptureready, I do not know the whole story. But this just doesn't feel right to me and I am saddened by the way these ladies were dissed.
Maybe instead of "quilting police" I should have used "quilting politics".

I thought this was interesting... there was a local shop hop and there was a bus that was chartered for the day to deliver us to all of the shops on the list. It was such a great time - everyone had so much fun. The following year we all noticed that one of the shops had disappeared from the list - and we discovered that the owner said she did not want to participate because we were not the right kind of customers that she wanted in her shop. That blew me away - we all left her shop with purchases in one of her fancy schmancy shop bags. Oh well we all laughed when we went right by her door the following year. And to be honest there are a lot of ladies that have found other shops to frequent where they can feel that they are welcome. Oh well - so it goes.

We have an LQS in our area that doesn't come right out and say it but let's you know that they don't want regular customers when they're having a shop hop because they're too busy. I don't do a whole lot of business there.

One of our local shops didn't participate because she is barely hanging on and the shops are required to provide one of the fabrics in the blocks. Everywhere I went I heard people asking why they weren't in the hop this year. I think her downfall was selling machines when she hadn't before. She quit buying as much new fabric. I can still go in and find fabric I bought from her three years ago.
