DH, who you would say is NOT sentimental at all, has all the home-made cards his kids ever gave him (youngest is almost 40 now). Plus all the little love notes I left for him thru the years.

My dad was very gruff and seemed unsentimental. He always seemed angry when we gave him gifts for birthdays, Christmas, and Father's Day. He always wore the shirts, ties, etc. we gave him even if they were ugly. He said he couldn't waste them. Imagine our surprise (there are 11 of us) when he passed away and all the cards, handmade or store bought, letters, etc. we gave him he had kept stored in his workroom in the basement. My mom didn't even know he did that. He had even kept all their love letters. He died a few months short of their 50 year anniversary.
