Another use for Elmer's Glue
I love this stuff! A few weeks ago my daughter volunteered me for putting patches on a few uniform shirts where she works. No problem I pinned them and sewed them, after poking and scratching myself a few times. Then they got all new uniforms so she brought me 210 shirts that needed 4 patches each. Elmer's glue to the rescue. It works great, just a thin film on the back, iron it down and sew away. Extra money and no cuts or holes in my fingers. Works for me.

Someone should write "A Quilter's Ode to Elmer's Glue" I just used it on the binding on my placemat to get it ready for machine sewing. I used to have a dangerous octopus of pins but no more. Yeah, Elmer's Glue!

Love school glue. The stuff is the best
I bought a bunch of bottles when they were on sale at Target after the school supplies went on big sale. They were like 10 cents a bottle or something like that. I also glue baste so I go through a bit of it.

When DH and I were first married and broke, he was in the Marines. It seemed he had to have new stripes sewn on his uniform every few months. Those things were like sewing through wood. I didn't have a sewing machine at base housing and broke dozens of hand needles. I had a bottle of Elmer's All purpose Glue and glued the patch on the shirt with a hot iron. The edges never lifted and never came loose wash after wash. I had to iron his uniform too, creases just right and measured drove me nuts. His first pay scale increase went to sending his uniforms to the base cleaners!

I had a "sewing emergency" also over the holidays. I put new sheets, quilts, etc. on our spare bed and when I was almost done I stepped on the bed skirt and tore it from the top part - quite bad. Did not have time to take the bedding off, take the top mattress off and then take the bed skirt off and sew it up - so just grabbed my glue bottle and "fixed it" temporarily! No hurry to fix it now!

They make a sheet of this stuff that is like fusible interfacing except it is like a paper thing glue. You cut it the size of the patch and peel one side. Put it on the patch and then peel the paper off the other side. Then stick the patch one the shirt. It becomes permanent. So much easier than what I had originally done.
