Hi Charlee, when I was little I used to go to antique shops and auctions with my parents. I always thought that antique meant 100 years old. I still do!
But terms have changed. I realize that. Got over being mad awhile ago LOL

Ah Sue...I wasn't "mad"...just blithering about something that is, like I said, totally petty and non-consequential. ;) :)

I don't know why I even bother to notice it really...it's just one of those things that stands out to me... :)

Oooooooooo...I'da been hotter than a two dollar pistol!! People that don't know how old an item is, shouldn't try to date it as an antique!! That's not counting, of course, the folks that label vintage stuff as antiques...I feel like they aren't trying to cheat anyone, they just don't know what an antique is...

I just consider anyone who uses the word 'antique' for something less than 100 yrs old as ignorant regarding what they are selling or whatever. Someone who really knows and understands antiques uses the word correctly. But antique dealers and shops sell things less than 100 yrs old and do not inform their customers of the difference. People think they are buying antiques and maybe would not buy if told it was only 'vintage.' I've seen a lot of dealers in action.

Ranting: 'vintage' is a b.s. word or euphemism for old stuff. I'd like to send a raspberry to the person who started using it. Really, I think it began legitimately as a date label, e.g. 'vintage 1930 charm quilt' or 'lovely 1920's vintage party dress.' Dropping the date destroyed the meaning. (Vintage, of course, borrowed from wine labels, "Red Plonk, Vintage 2009".) Now I feel better, too.

There. I'm getting off my soapbox. Said my piece, and as I mentioned before, it really doesn't matter...I just had to get it off my chest! (Can you tell I've been surfing Craig's list and ebay?) Thanks! ;)
