Hi, first time to post....here in PA we have used this recipe numerous times which was on a local radio talk show for "women" years and years ago AND the best thing ... IT WORKS. Honest!
Equal parts of powdered sugar and borax. (What ever amount you may need.)
2 cups powdered sugar and 2 cups borax (has the mule team on front.) Mix well in a container(that has lid and marked for "Ants".) with an old utensil. With a small container, place around the outside of the house. We have not used it inside the house, since they came from the outside. Like around the foundation. The ants are drawn to the sweetness of the powdered sugar but can't digest the soap powder. Sooo....they all disappear. We even had red ant nests in the Yew bushes in front of the house and they hatched at the same time with gazillions of red small ants everywhere. Used this mixture, with in a half hour or so....no more red ants. What a relief. Hope this can help you. Good luck.

My dad always poured boiling water into the ant hills and used the sugar/borax bait in the house.
Over the years, I've had them come into my homes via the electrical outlets and the kitchen faucet (like their walking along pipe and up into the wall).
If your house is elevated, call a professional. Crawling around under there with boiling water is probably a bad idea.

If you have ants on you kitchen counter or any place you prepare food use a mixture of 1 tablespoon Dawn dish washing soap and a spray bottle of water. Spray the ants and it will kill them instantly. It plugs the breathing part of them. It won't help kills the rest of them. If Dawn is safe enough to wash your dishes it is safe enough for your counters. I have used it for years.
