any luck shortening a t-shirt????

when I had it pinned I did a very long basting stitch very close to the edge and then cut it off and finished off the raw edge and then stitched a second row to hem it. btw I think the larger stitch worked alot better to control the stretching. This was a heavier knit also so will see what happens to the cheaper knit....

Would anyone be interested in posting a tutorial with pictures? I have wanted to shorten many of my t-shirts, but I'm not confident in my abilities without guidance. Perhaps along the lines of Barb's "How I Make My Stash Dolls". That tutorial helped me make bride and groom dolls for my niece and her fiance.
Thanks in advance.

Did you look at the pictures I posted. I tried misstreated's method of shorter on the sides. I measured 13" down from the underarm and then went 2" longer front and back. pin and then stitched with stretch stitch at the very bottom close to the edge. I cut off to about an inch above stitching and then zigzaged the edge and then stitched another row 3/4" above first stitching. You really need the stretch stitch when you wear it. It gives alittle when you pull it over your head. Does this help at all????

WOO,HOO! I did it! I looked at the pictures and combined a couple of the instructions on a free t-shirt I got at the Indy 500, and it worked. It looks good, if I had batteries in my camera, I'd send a picture; but I can do it now! Now I can go through my t-shirts and make them the length I like. Thank you all so much!! This is awesome! :D :D :D
