We use a mixture of equal amounts of Borax and sugar and put in a lid like on a butter tub and put on a counter where they are coming in. The sugar draws them in and the Borax kills them.Has worked every time for us! Dee

I read that ants will not cross talcum powder. I put it on top of my humming bird feeders and it worked great. Then I had some come through my window. Haa, thought I'll get you guys and put down the talcum across the bottom of the window. They went up the wall over the talc and came for a visit anyway.

The cinnamon definitely seems to working. I sprinkled some around some ants outside and they tried to get away from it.

The very best thing I have ever used to get rid of ants is called Terro. I buy it at Ace hardware store or True Value hardware stores, although other places carry it too. I started using it in the '80s when I lived in Minnesota and heard about it. It basically is a mixture of sugar and Borax in liquid form. You place it on a piece of paper or cardboard and set it in the middle of the path of ants. They take it back to their colonies and it destroys the entire colony. It's pretty harmless if a pet would happen to get into it. You can place it high enough that the baby can't reach it. I've used it when living in WA and CA as well, and it's been effective everywhere I've used it. Good luck with getting rid of them!

Terro is my go-to also! Thanks for info about it being non-toxic to pets! I've only used it on sills, etc, but today I see a path across the floor so will put some down! Very sticky on hands if you spill, but soap and water will take it off.

my daughter was going crazy with ants and can't use chemicals because she has pets. I bought a large container of cinnamon at Costco and sprinkled along doorjams, under sink and behind the cabinet - no ants and the animals won't lick at it. While you are trying to get rid of the source and you have a stream coming in somewhere in the kitchen - grab your spray oil (PAM) and spray the trail. It stops them and you aren't putting chemicals on your kitchen counter.

I got rid of all of mine by using a package of Equal sweetener with a little powdered sugar. I mixed it and put it in bottle tops. They come to it like crazy then you see fewer and fewer until they are all gone. Outside I mix pure orange oil and water and pour on the mounds and that kills then very quickly.

If the baby gets it on it's hands, and wipes it's eyes, they can be injured.

After 4+ years of trying every "safe", natural ant remedy known to man -- including cinnamon which stained the white tile back splash in my kitchen -- I found Terro ANT Killer at Walmart to be the ONLY thing that prevented them from even entering the house because it kills the whole colony.

It comes in a special orange bag that has holes in the bottom which allow the granules to be sprinkled around the base of the house outside. Try to use them on a day when you expect a bit of rain within 48 hours or so. I have outside cats and worried about them, but there doesn't seem to ever have been a problem.
