Your accountant can also file an extension as well, makes the process easier but you have to pay any taxes due in April.

May I make a few suggestions for next year. After you get this year's stuff to the accountant this is what I would suggest. Get a large manilla envelope, one for every month. Then put everything in the envelope for that month. Try to take the time each month to organize the previous month's envelope. Sometimes just having one for each month seems to make the process easier.

Just purchased the neat desk we live it!!! Very helpful even for quilting!

Another suggestion is the following: The Neat Desk
Information about it can be found at: www. neatco .com

They have a payment plan that provides a good way to purchase. This scans the information, so you have it in paper format, electronic format and then into a spreadsheet. This is also accepted by IRS for tax purposes.

You're not alone it putting off the task. I think it's a chore. I hate doing them, as last year I ended up paying. I didn't send my check in until the very last possible moment.

I declare taxes an inappropriate topic! LOL

We filed about a month ago, but only because we didn't have to pay this year, for a change. But I agree, getting everything together is really a pain in the behind.

BTW, I bet your accountant has plenty of customers who come in a few days before the deadline instead of a few weeks. He should hug you for being so early. :)

This is the first time in 32 years that I didn't have to file a business return so this year I filed my own using Turbo Tax. Taxes are filed and federal return has been received. State will take awhile, it always does.

No matter how organized I try to stay it always seems like this massive amount of "stuff" to sort through. Plus it takes time away from my quilting and being on the quilting board! :
We finished the taxes yesterday. It's like root canal that happens every year. Aaarrrgggh.

My husband just mentioned taxes. He used to do them for others. but last year he did ours and forgot to add Social Security income we both got!! luckily it was rejected quickly and we fixed it.

I'm still procrastinating. I usually do mine a couple weeks before the deadline. I use a tax program so it is easy to get done. What I hate, is gathering up all the information needed from my pile of receipts.
