This diet is really more a way of life in that you eat like our ancestors would have before the time of modern agriculture (no grains, no dairy and no sugar). Diet consists of meats, veggies, fruits and good fats (olive oil, coconut oil, etc).I must admit, the first week or two I really had bagel withdrawl LOL!! But I have lost 15 pounds, my BP is awesome and I feel better than I have in years! If you would like to learn more about this approach to improving your health, check out robbwolfe.com or read the book The Paleo Solution. Its a great read that makes alot of sense as to why so many of us are overweight, sick, depressed and just plain miserable!

    Hugs!

Hi Jenni...yes, hubby and I are just trying to get on to it ourselves the last couple of weeks or so. We started crossfit a few weeks ago and they promote the diet there. We really like it although I'm struggling with breakfast the most as we were definitely cereal eaters at breakfast...lol. Unfortunately, I haven't lost any weight yet :( but I know I'm snacking on too many nuts...lol. But it is a great way of eating and we both feel so good.
Congratulations on your weight loss so far...that's great :)

Interesting...I'll have to read more about it! I am watching calories but that is enough for now. I can't give up the grains yet! Though, I'm not getting many, when I think about it...miss_ticky, I'd way overdo the nuts, too! I'm pretty sure pistachios are the reason South Beach was not successful for me many years ago!

The paleo diet sounds like it would be diabetic-friendly, too...

I've been following this lifestyle for the last 6 years. It took me about 18 months but I lost about 65 lbs. on this diet. I still follow this but admitedly not quite as strictly. That coupled with not having been working for the last 3-4 years I have gained about 20 lbs. back. As to breakfast, so far the only cereal I've managed to find that's compliant is by Arrowhead Mills. They have puffed corn, rice and wheat. No additives whatsoever. It's quite tolerable. I do use whole milk so maybe that's why I don't have a problem with it!

Is it similar to the Atkins diet?

It is super diabetic friendly! All your carbs come from fruits and vegetables (preferably fresh) and it keeps your insulin levels where they should be. Also helps lower blood pressure, gut problems, and inflammation.

Believe me I was sceptical at first, but the proof is in my bloodwork and weight I have lost.

How about nuts and seeds? Are the sunflower seeds and almonds I have on my desk compliant? Maybe it depends on what oil they were roasted in?
