I buy aprons at Sam's Club and decorate them with quilt blocks or embroidery. I never wore aprons until about two years ago and now I love them. I would like to make some from scratch and your post may inspire me. froggyintexas

When I was growing up in the 50s, my Mom wore a house dress and apron everyday. I use to have some, mostly pretty and fancy. They weren't very practical, I could never get use to them. My Mom was raised on a farm and worked at her Granddad's cooking for the farm hands when she was younger. She was born in 1914.

Yup, I make aprons and wear them too. My granddaughter made aprons for 3 relatives for Christmas a couple years ago. I like the aprons that are double thickness.

For me this is a funny question. I wear an apron everyday at work...in a school cafeteria where we feed around 450 students a day. When at home I wear one sometimes, depends on what I'm making. Like was previously stated when it appears the flour will fly. My DDs will go to my hook of aprons to borrow one when they visit if needed and have fun looking at the graphics and sayings on some of them. I make some for special holidays and have recently started doing machine embroidery on some also. Most of my aprons are the butcher/chef style but I also have some that are what's called a cobblers apron that cover front and back and have ties on each side at the waist.

I like gram quilter 2 enjoy making aprons for others, but I myself do not usually wear one.

I (love) wear aprons also. I've made quite a few for myself, family & friends. As mentioned in this post, if it's thinner fabric, either line it with muslin or make it reversible. Denim or heavier fabric doesn't need to be lined. I made a "retro" church lady apron out an old tablecloth from the 50's that I inherited from my Mom. It had some stains on it but I just couldn't throw it away. Used the good unstained parts and voila - Mom helps me in the kitchen now. ) Also made one for my DD from her Dad's old work shirt from the only salvagable part - the back. LOL I have several patterns, but my go-to is just a plain one that I traced from an apron I got at Salvation Army.

I love aprons and wear them for cooking and cleaning house. I live reversible aprons the best. I make them all the time to give to family friends and so forth. One of my favorite place to visit for free patterns is http://www.sew4home.com look under projects they have wonderful instructions and patterns you can print off for free. I also love just getting creative and making my own design. Can you tell I love aprons Now I am going to have to go make one

This is the pattern of the first apron my mother taught me to make. IMHO it is the easiest one to make.
