When I was renting an apartment in a two family, the couple upstairs put out a BBQ on the upstairs deck. I mentioned to the landlady that her homeowners insurance would not pay a claim if the BBQ caught fire; Which is true. the BBQ went away.

why would anybody keep a bbq grill with PROPANE TANK in their garage????????????????

We also have a propane furnace and our tank is waaaaay away from the house. Some people have theirs right outside their bedroom window - a rocket ready to go off....

I'm the one that posted about our new deck. i have the bbq right outside the sliders. Someone is always watching it when it's on. We will have a fireproof thing under it. And it's always moved away from the house when being used. We don't have a deck cover so I'm not worried there. We also have a fire extinguisher. I refuse to let fears stop me from having fun. Now let the FUN begin!

It was probably me. I mis-spoke. It's usually kept just outside the garage but during the winter it's stored in a detached shed. Where ever we put it, we make sure there's plenty of ventilation. Given the stories in the news lately, I'm going to look into the dangers a little more closely. The BBQ is the only thing we have that is propane (natural gas furnace) so I'm not as familiar with it. Word to the wise, huh?!

I believe one of the fires was fueled by being too close to a house with siding, something that will melt anyways if the BBQ is too close. What freaks me out about it how many have ocurred during the last couple of weeks.
We warped our siding doing that very thing. Stupid me got mad at my hubby for having it so close, never realizing it could have been a lot worse!! Thanks for letting us know!
