Bear trouble
#21
Our problem this year is the chipmunk! Cute little things but they have eaten the plastic off of my new squirrel proof bird feeder! Then there are the bunnies - holy moly we have a huge group eating our flowers and bulbs... then the deer. Well, tick ridden, hosta eating adolescent duo that are looking real good for thanksgiving dinner! But no bears this year... not in our yard anyway. They got my neighbor's feeders earlier this Spring.

We had bears last year. One went through the neighbors kitchen window. Fish and Game came out, lectured everyone about leaving the garbage out, feeding the birds etc, then set a trap in our driveway. After three days I put some Alaska fish fertilizer as bait in the trap and the next morning he was in there banging around. They relocated him to the higher mtns. Now I put bleach in the big garbage can outside. So far no more problems.

We had a bear bothering us at our cabin when we were building it. Hubby called FIsh & Game. F&G said throw rocks at him. AHHH, hubby said I am not going out there to test that one. F&G said if you shoot him, you have to bring the skull in all clean. Hubby said no if I have to shoot him I am not bringing anything in--you can fine me if you want. Bear tore the sewer line from the MH to dumpstation and no other real damage.

From another Coloradan who is fed up with squirrels--They kept chewing their way into the big rubbermaid-type locker we use to store our bird seed. After many futile attempts to deter them, we finally hit on a great solution---we mixed cayenne pepper into some paint and painted the whole thing. It worked!!! 2 years and counting. The pepper doesn't change the color of the paint. We probably put about 1 tablespoon of pepper into 2 qts of paint.
