Beautiful handwork
#17
I have picked up some vintage doilies this past summer at yard and estate sales. Some are in perfect shape, some need repair. I need to get out a few of them that have daffodils on them and starch them, so the flowers stand up like they should. I used to do a lot of the thread crochet work, still have quite a few fancy collars stored away, and have made some very pretty pieces for others. I made a couple of old fashion christening gowns...the very long ones like you see in the old photos. They were fun, but a lot of work.
When I fell in 96, I injured my neck and both rotator cuffs. It became nearly impossible for me to even crochet with yarn again, much less thread. I still have boxes of Brilliant crochet thread from before then. I made my husband's cousin's wife, who is one of my best friends a couple of those beautiful huge table toppers, but don't think I will ever make another. So I really appreciate all the work that goes into making these.
I am going to start looking around the thrift stores to see if I can find a really big frame with the glass in it, in fair to good condition, and if I do, will mount one of the white ones. Imagine how pretty that will be hung up.

I have a beautiful one send from family in Europe. I bought one of those brass rings - and attached the doilie, going through each outside stitch with matching crochet thread so that you don't see any of the brass. I used to hang it in the window but was afraid that the sun would damage it. Now it stands on my shelf - as a decorative plate would. It's beautiful.
