    Currently, no company should require a landline. Some tell you that they have special deals if bundled, but they should have the same 'deals' without a landline. Most will have a special one or two year deal with a the first part at a super price and then it goes up. Calculate the whole time and see if it is worth it. I learned from my kids (wow!!) that when the contract is over, call them and explain that you like their company but do not like the increased pricing and you are giving them the first shot at a better deal before you cancel. You would be amazed at the deals they will offer you. BUT, you need to be prepared to change if they say no. My youngest has had free HBO since she moved three years ago! She simply calls them every 6 months and politely talks to them. And, by putting us all on her HBO GO, we all can get HBO thru Roku. It requires a bit of time and planning, but, there is a way to get deals with the cable companies. The internet gets a bit trickier to play with, but, there are some deals.

    And a "landline" nowadays isn't really a true landline. It is a home phone, usually, hooked into the internet service, with a battery backup. We got a deal like that on Cox and took the line, but, didn't use it and left our "true" landline the way it was. It was a real true landline, with hardwires. We kept it because it never went out even during hurricanes and power outages. When we tried to disconnect it when we moved, they were all confused, trying to turn us over to Uverse because they thought it was a home phone. It took hours and then we went to an ATT store here and had the nice fellow make the call. Whatever he said worked, finally.

    We got rid of Dish and have a Roku device on which we get Netflix, Hula, Amazon Prime, and Sling TV. We do get CNN on Sling, and many other channels too, such as AMC, TNT, HG, to name a few....all the TV we can watch with less than half the cost of Dish.

    We have Cox and can't complain. Check into "bundling." We did that several years ago, and have Cox, phone, internet. Of course it is expensive, but everything is; right?

    Yes, I'm in NC. We just moved and I changed from Time Warner (now Spectrum) to AT&T U-Verse. I had it about four months and switched back to Spectrum. AT&T didn't have near the channels available with Spectrum and half the ones they had were stations trying to sell something. We hated it. If you have a contract with another provider, Spectrum will pay to get you out of your contract. When you get the bill for cancelling the contract send it to Spectrum and they will send you a check. They will pay up to $500 if I'm not mistaken. I don't know if this applies in all areas but it's worth checking out.

    Call Time Warner and threaten to change to another provider. I did it all the time when they raised the rates. They always made me a better deal. Of course, you have to be ready to change providers if it doesn't work. Just be friendly and if you can't get anywhere with the person you are talking to ask for supervisor or a retention specialist.

    We do not have cable at all. We got a digital flat indoor antenna for $19.97 from Home Depot and get lots of channels. We also have Amazon Prime and can watch lots of movies and tv shows which is great. For internet, we have Century Link-just for internet. Century Link used to be Sprint. Sure saves a lot of money on cable and/or dish. Wishing you the best with your decision.

    Living in the mountains of AZ, we had Direct TV for 130 dollars a month. Then we found Netflix was available for about 25 dollars a month thru our internet service. Lots of channels and dont miss Direct TV at all. No local news channels from Phx. just back east but thats ok for the difference in price.

    Ditch cable and stream. Saves a ton of money, cable so not worth the price IMHO. We have been cable free for 8 years and I honestly don't miss it at all with hulu, netflix and amazon I have more than enough to watch

    Don't know if you have already made a decision - but if your area has the Cox High Speed internet then that is the way to go. My daughter was changing providers for financial reasons and the other carriers told her to keep the Cox internet - it is truly better than AT&T. If they are not set up with the high speed internet yet -which I understand not all of Cox areas have it yet, then I would think one is as good as the other so go for cost. Cox has a few levels of internet - we up graded to the high speed since it seems to work the best for streaming the movies on Netflix.
