That is true of peppers such as jalepenos, etc. I once made a relish with various kinds and came out with blisters after cutting them up! The "heat" comes from acid in them.

I heard years ago to put black coffee into your wash cycle for blacks. Never had any coffee left to try it.

I have used ground black pepper for cuts and it works! No burning, it stops the bleeding and the cut seems to heal quicker too.

you know that herbal recipes seem to work well and are generally cheaper than the 'newer medical' versions

Careful, if the spice industry finds out that we're using pepper for laundry they'll probably raise the price of pepper! LOL

I might try that on my Husband's black jeans. He loves Black Pepper, makes sense to use it on his pants.

This is because you are dealing with the moisture of the pepper so you are actually getting the capsaison (sp wrong) on your hands. Plus its a different kind of pepper, just like garlic, you get different taste from fresh and dried, hits the taste buds at different spots.

A professional chef told my brother who is an avid cook tat he (the chef)keeps a can of red cayene pepper in his cooking area and uses I when he gets cut with a knife and instantly stops the bleeding - so why wouldn't black pepper do the same. I have never heard of using it in the laundry.
