I keep the usual white, black and cream bobbins wound. I have been using up the colorful odds and ends ones when I'm doing crumb blocks, and other projects that the color won't matter or show through.

Right now I'm doing a bunch of embroidery where I need the bobbin thread to be the same color as the top thread on the last stitching. I try to wind what I think I might need for that last stitchout but seldom do I get it correct. So I'll use the bobbin thread that's the closest to the color I'm using on top or use it for the top thread till it runs out. I have lots of bobbins for my EPIC but you never seem to have enough. I keep a couple bobbins filled each of white and black as I use that the most. Once I'm done with this embroidery project, I'll use the leftover bobbin threads to do some piecing and empty that way. I hate to waste good thread too.

I have tons of bobbins, one for each spool of thread and extras. I match the bobbin thread to the top thread when piecing. I never put a new color on top of a different color on a bobbin. I'd sooner buy more empty bobbins. So I have tons of bobbins for my piecing machine, many for my embroidery machine, and tons of bobbins for my longarm.

Since my dealer gives bobbins away, I have lots of bobbins. For black, white, cream, I fill a couple bobbins at a time. The others I fill as needed and if there is much thread left, I will leave the bobbin with the spool of thread.

I have lots of bobbins and lots of odd color thread. If the project will allow, I try to use up the older, odd color thread. I hate to waste anything.

I use up bobbin thread by putting the bobbin on the top spindle of my machine rather than in the bobbin case. It is easy to see when it is running out and go onto the next partially filled bobbin of whatever color. In other words, I use it like a spool of thread when I'm piecing and it doesn't make any difference on the color. To do this you need to use a vertical spindle option rather than a horizontal spindle on your machine. I also use up spools of thread with a little on them this way too.

I always go thru my bobbin box before filling a new bobbin. The only exception is if I'm doing a project where the bobbin and top thread have to match. If I have a big project then I'll start off with filling several bobbins, other than that I don't do a lot, like my stash, I go thru my bobbins to see what will be close enough

Good idea to use the bobbin in the top of the machine. I have found my new machine is sensitive to what kind of bobbin it uses. This way I can use the ones that won't work on the top. Thanks for the tip.

I wish there was a way to determine how much thread you need on a bobbin . I've tried winding thread over thread already on the bobbin, but it never seems to wind properly.

I can't stand bobbins that have numerous different threads, whenever I find them at thrift stores/yard sales, etc., one of the first things I do is get all the threads off the bobbins. I do save most of my threads though, since one of these days I want to make something like a "thread bowl", have the instructions just haven't had the time to do it yet. LOL
