I always tell the gals around here in the office you are only paying for the name, there is no love in those laura ashley or vera wang bags...and I tell them I could make the same bag for a fraction of what they paid for there bags....but some are just materialistic...I giggle at them too...

I know someone that is that way, too. Someone commented on her little daughter's dress and she said "It should be pretty for what we paid for it. It's a ???" and I can't remember the name. Can't believe so many people put so much emphasis on price.

i hear you on that - went in on a shower gift for a co-worker. she wanted a vera bradley diaper bag - cost around 125!!!! yikes - i kept thinking what a waste but she is one of those types. funny thing they said when they were buying it for her that she could use after the baby for a regular purse - haven't seen her carrying it into work yet!!!

My mom made me a Vera Bradley bag, with Vera Bradley fabric. I wish I would have thought of a good line when people commented on it. Instead, I just said, "Thank you, my mom made it for me." I ALWAYS get compliments on every purse she makes for me. Never do I get a compliment on purchased bags. I wanted to make my daughter (have my mom make) a diaper bag for her 1st child (girl). She instead went to Neiman (sp?) Marcus and got a Petuna Pickle Bottoms purse that was on a 'ridiculous sale'. They normally sell for $170.00!!!! She did not get that buying sense from her mother! She claims all her friends have it and they hold up really well.... kids these days.. (she's 25)...lol

I was in a Laura Ashely store....all the bags look production line constructed...not real wild about most of the fabrics she uses either. One of the cutest bags I ever made was made with fabric I found at a garage sale for 1.00 a yard LOL

How about the people that buy 100$ purses and then ask you to make one and when you tell them the price they just say oh that much. But will pay $$$$ for a name brand not handmade. I just shake my head.
